The Cult spent a whopping $5 BILLION dollars on their shopping mall. At the same time, the Cult has changed the wording on their tithing slips for 2012:

"Though reasonable efforts will be made globally to use donations as designated, all donations become the Church's property and will be used at the Church's sole discretion to further the Church's overall mission."

All of this was paid for by tithing. It may not be tithing collected over the last 10, 20 or 30 years, but all of it came from original tithing invested heavily throughout the cult's corporation.

Interestingly, $5 billion is the equivalent to 125 years worth of LDS humanitarian aid.
Bet those homeless Haitian Mormon's are chuffed to bits that the Mall is open.

The Church's plan is to feed the hungry at the City Creek food court, obviously.

So....

$5 billion for a mall
$0 for cleaning Chapels

$5 billion for a mall
$0 million a year for helping the poor and needy (but they will pass on your extra donations)

I'm so blessed to be a member of such a Christ like Church...

Wow. That's a ton of dough. There's been a rumor going around lately that the standard tithing donation slip has been revised to remove some categories and include a disclaimer to the effect that the Church doesn't have to use a donation only for the purpose as denoted by the member on the slip -- maybe this is the Church's way to get more money to pay for this great and spacious building. ;)

Not a rumour.
You can specify which fund your donation applies to but the Church can spend it on whatever they want regardless of your wishes and purpose for donating.

The church is doing what any good corporation does, they are trying to diversify their portfolio. If they recoup their investment in the city creek mall I hope they kick back some of that money to the church and lessen the burden for the members. At least pay for janitors for the church buildings.

While I am personally very unhappy about the mall and its costs the Church does not spend 0 per year on helping the poor. Everyone always leaves out fast offering which I have estimated here numerous times to be about $500 million per year.

Compared to spending on all the BYUs, it's just a medium amount of money.
