Congratulations are in order for our very own JOSEPH ANTLEY for making the local Channel 5 News here in Utah. Apparently he organized a protest of sorts against the comments made by Brother Bott. Here's the story and the accompanying video:

I wonder, however: Is the term "ark steadying" applicable in any way to this fiasco, on either the part of Young Antley or Brother Bott? If so, to which one?

Anyone else think it somewhat strange to watch members protest the statements of a BYU professor, when they are totally consistent with what the church taught for a number of years? Why is it so difficult for some members to merely say "the policy as it was taught was racist."

Since this appeared on KSL-TV which is the Church's TV station in Salt Lake City, Joseph Antley should be safe from the BYU Honor Enforcement Squad. Elder J. Trevor Antley demonstrated bravery in being willing to speak out. Congratulations and thanks.

If Dr. Bott is known for being straightforward then it can be assumed that the racist things he said to the Washington Post are things he has said for years in his classes at BYU. Yet everyone praised him for being one of the best profs on campus. Not a single complaint. Only now, when his straightforward views are in the new, is he suddently embarrassing and heretical to the church and to students like Joseph Antley.
What a bunch of hypocrites.

Dammit. How in the hell can a person find good in a church whose own members gravitate to this for an answer:

This is your open dialogue you ask for? It drives me crazy. God, the only way to enjoy this church must be to go deaf and blind to my surroundings. I can't look at this anymore.

Antley is this what you distributed on the BYU campus? Would have liked to have seen "sexual orientation" alongside gender, race or economic and social status, but baby steps I guess.

You guys at BYU sure know how to protest and condemn. Look, Antley, handing out a limp flyer and stating, "I hope nothing happens to Professor Bott" hardly a protest makes.

On the upside, Jenna looks cute - you should get with her, Young Joseph.

I agree. I also had nothing to do with the flier, the organizing of the student-professor forum on the issue, or any other form of tepid "protest," despite what people are saying in this thread. I think that my more subtle ways of speaking out are more effective and less likely to turn off people than would an all-out protest.
