What is god and how did he/she/it get made?

Post by _just me »

What is god (to you) and how did it come into existence? Is it alive?

Thanks!

God is a notion concocted by men (and women) in the past as an effort to explain what mankind could not otherwise at the time.

Yes, it is alive, and perpetuated by a fairly significant portion of the current population on earth.

God is in our imagination. This is why God is so interesting and important. I'm not saying God isn't real.
Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

The Holy Sacrament.

It would appear that's exactly what you're saying.

For us to accept this:

God is a notion concocted by men (and women) in the past

You will have to show evidence for this:

as an effort to explain what mankind could not otherwise at the time.

Please do so.

What is god (to you)
The God of the Bible.

and how did it come into existence?
He's always been. That's why He's God.

Is it alive?
Yes.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Hey JM :)

just me wrote:What is god (to you)

God is the Creator of all things.

and how did it come into existence?

I don't believe God had a beginning (Thus not created - "came into existence") so I believe God has always been (outside of space and time)

Is it alive?

God is the creator of life (I believe he is alive but not in the sense we humans have the capacity/capability to understand and/or think of when we use the word alive)

Thanks!

You're most welcome. :)

I am enjoying all the responses. I like reading all the different ideas.

JM asked what God is.......Not the Big Bang and evolution. :)

Yes, it is alive, and perpetuated by a fairly significant portion of the current population on earth.

I agree 100% (If we are talking about evolutionism) :)

I don't get this. You get to say that your deity created everything, then you deal with the obvious implied question 'who created him, then?' by saying that he has always been there and had no beginning.

Why not simply say that the physical universe has, in some form, always been there?

But if you find the idea of non-originated existence uncomfortable, why are you allowed to say that your deity has non-originated existence?
