http://mormonstories.org/312-mormon-exp ... hn-dehlin/I just ran across this.
Interesting interview.
What really perplexes me is WHY he still allows/wants his kids to be sucked into the organization that he disparages.
He wanted to baptize his son into Mormonism.

You should listen to more of his interviews if you have time. It is as if he grasping for something to help him believe. His interview of Brant Gardner reflected a lot of that, along with a lot of ignorance of basic church history.

I see that.
However, over his journey, which has been fairly public, it seems he cares less and less to find a reason to believe. He seems to be approaching agnosticism.

Well, isn't that the definition of an agnostic? Not quite an atheist.
John is still in the church and says he has had numerous discussions with his priesthood leaders about his status. I can only imagine that he has told them enough to convince them that he's better in that out and that he agrees.
I think he ought to do himself and everybody else a big favor. Leaf-leave while the tree's still green.

From the Agnostic viewpoint:
If there is no true church or religion, but the Church is helpful for social reasons, helpful in preventing alcoholism, true abuse, teen-age pregnancies, then WHY NOT stay in it????
From the Daheshist viewpoint:
God does not care what church or religion we belong to. If a religion teaches us to love our neighbor, do good works, and we are accepted in that religion, we should stay in that religion and do good to others. We are judged by how we treat others, and nothing else.

Bot, knowing what you know about the COB, what do you think they will and should do with John Dehlin?
Let him be and continue to do his thing as a "member"? Or ex him and risk his listeners leaving the church en masse?
I think the church is in a tough spot with people like Dehlin and Joanna Brooks, it isn't 1993 anymore.

They won't touch Joanna and John. The church still has a lot of momentum in the eyes of its faithful membership. There is a huge capacity for forgiveness in the membership. Many members gain from feeling accepted. That is enough to stay. The leaders know they have loyalty among the ranks.
I predict they play the "We're normal and focus on Christian charity" card. This will be the focus. It will get easier to be a lax Mormon in the future. The church will lose some revenues but other than that, they will continue, despite the troubling PR issues.

Good points Willy and Zee.
The COB probably wishes they had exed John and Joanna years ago, but now they have a huge following with who knows how many others who would leave if the COB exed these two...

What I can't figure is why the church went after Grant Palmer so aggressively. According to his interview his stake president wanted a new church court because he appeared in some obscure TV show. His stake president stated that the only way Palmer would not be ex'd is if he would disavow everything in his book and regain his testimony. What Palmer did is very mild in comparison to Dehlin and Joanna appearing on national news, writing major news articles and producing podcasts that are listened to by ten of thousands of people each week.
My own opinion is that there is nothing the church can do to them right now, the spotlight is too bright. Once Obama trounces Romney I think the church will move to isolate them, especially if BKP is prophet. But I'm interested in what Bot, BC and some of the other apologists think will happen.

Grant Palmer didn't play the game correctly.
You can be a faithful member and publicly follow a Joanna type. She has the right touch. So does John. They are a couple of smooth operators.
