Elder Quentin L. Cook urged young Latter-day Saints to live up to their true identity.
A LDS newsroom bulletin on this important matter is expected shortly.

that is the stupidest collection of nothing i have read in a while.
what an idiot. i think most of those stories came out of the paul h. dunn book of communication. did this guy really pull out every military story from an apostle that he could remember?
don't post anonymously online? really? that is ridiculous. in fact, it may be the most hypocritical pile of **** i have seen from the church in a long time.
hey cookster, who wrote this:
http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/r ... st-articlethat is right, it was written without a name. it is great advice for everyone but you and tommy, right? so clever of you to tell a bunch of kids to put their name on all they do, but by damn, you sure get to hide behind the mask.
and remember that prop 8 thing? oh, that little part where the church only admitted to being involved after they were caught?
the great and sick part of this, is that Mormons will not see that cook is wearing the mask and telling his sheeple to not wear theirs. sick. this is what a cult looks like.

I doubt this will change a thing, particularly concerning the descendants of those who opposed early Mormonism. Nothing said there. The Jesus/Joseph Smith analogy is a blasphemy. I certainly wish that Brigham Young, a worse person, had not taken over after Joseph Smith was killed. I am not responsible for my ancestors' mistakes.
Why don't they ex people like Pahoran?
I agree, the speech is a massive hypocrisy, but I don't need to use that kind of language in reviewing it.

Elder Cook wrote:There are other "insidious behaviors that poison society and undermine basic morality," he said. "It is common today to hide one's identity when writing hateful, vitriolic, bigoted communications anonymously online. Some refer to it as flaming."
Hmmm... has he been reading MDDB?
Some institutions try to control it, he said, noting that the New York Times won't tolerate comments where there are personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity, impersonations, incoherence and shouting. The Times also encourages the use of real names because “'we have found that people who use their names carry on more engaging, respectful conversations.'"
And every stalker that wants to know, can find out where all those "real" people live.
Smart, Elder Cook. Real smart.
Elder Cook denounced "any use of the Internet to bully, destroy a reputation or place a person in a bad light" and said anonymity makes people more likely to engage in such behavior.
Bully? Destroy a reputation? Place a person in a bad light? Has he been in Relief Society lately?
He {Boyd K Packer} recognized his career choice would provide only modest compensation. But he and his wife, Sister Donna Packer, have not felt deprived. They sacrificed to raise 10 children and now have 60 grandchildren and 79 great-grandchildren
Good grief. This is a bold-faced lie! (and he's wrong, too). Packer's career choice was to be supported by tithing for 50 years! No wonder they didn't feel deprived! They had the tithes of the poor and widowed paying their bills since 1961! What kind of sacrifice has he ever done? None! Why? Because none was ever required of GAs!
Oh wait. Is it considered attacking someone anonymously if it's true? The truth definitely hurts Packer.

So I guess all the faithful LDS will now immediately drop their pseudonyms here and around the Bloggernacle and at MDD to be obedient to their "prophet, seer, and revelator" Quentin Crook. Right?
Edited to add: Ok, I just read the article. What a tool! He basically argues that using a pseudonym on the Internet is like being a klansman wearing a hood!

I wonder if this means that they'll be deleting old articles from the
FARMS Review. The vast majority of people reviwed were "placed in a bad light."

Yup. I'd guess he's never been stalked.
I have. You won't find me uncloaking anytime soon.
