Has your skin become noticeably darker? If so, you have probably been cursed and are therefore unable to recognize and respond to spiritual matters such as this.

As a TBM, I always thought the apostles had seen Jesus otherwise their witness was no more special than my own spiritual experiences. I mean if they had same burning in the bosom experience that the rest of us ordinary peons had, then how is their witness special? No. They must have seen and talked with Jesus. That is the only way their witness is "special."

Let's go with the assumption that they actually rubbed shoulders with Jesus. Like, they sat together on a park bench and discussed things while throwing bread crumbs to the pigeons. A breeze may have picked up and given Uchtdorf a smell of honey and pita bread. Maybe a strand of hair or two got in the apostles eyes until Jesus tucked it neatly under his robe. Anyway, let's say they visited as you and I might do.
Given that assumption, how is that needed? How is a prophet needed today, as it says on the lds.org website?

Good point, Z.
I suppose it would be of inspirational value if they would share some insights and inside information they got from the Big Guy himself, or relayed messages...
"As I was chatting with Jesus in the temple yesterday, after he instructed me exactly where he wanted each new missionary to be sent, he told me about how worried Trent and Krystal Jacobson are down in LaVerkin about their sick baby. He wanted me to assure them that little Jimmer will be getting better by Thursday. Oh, and he reminded me again how much he dislikes ear piercings on males, so you three boys in the Mesa 12th Ward Teacher's Quorum, change your weekend plans."
That might be a conference address to inspire the saints.

Roman catholics of special note like st francis of assisi, padre pio and others women included, have according to evidence the rcc has gathered, experienced the stigmata-pain, often blood in the hands ,feet and side similar to those wounds of Jesus. in the case of padre pio, when he was dying , the punctures in his feet were visibly seen to heal as the spirit left his body. pio often said mass with brown finger loves soaked in blood from puncture wounds on his hands.
has anyone in Mormon history claimed that phenomenon- i was hoping at lease one apostle somewere along the line, would have claimed such a special witness of jesus /the atonement.

I heard a rumor once that Thomas Monson sometimes suffers from acid reflux. I hope that counts.

Sounds so literal.
Why can't it indicate that they simply hold the keys to the executive washroom or enjoy sacred perks such as the corporate jet, stipends, bottomless credit card, having people stand when these witnesses enter the room etc...?
Security alone would indicate a special witness program.
Chap wrote:And what on earth does that expression "special witnesses Of THE NAME of Jesus Christ" MEAN?

Of course, this allows prophets to say they have seen Jesus without saying they have seen Jesus.
Which is good, because they haven't seen Jesus.
But this way, they get to make the Mormon majority believe they have seen Jesus without actually lying.
Apostles get to say one thing while knowing their hearers will think they mean something else.
It's a good set-up all around.

You prove every day that you are the anti-mormon (wolf in sheep's clothing) that I always knew you were..... even when fellow LDS were a bit critical of me for it for seeing who you actually were and saying it.
And for the other idiots out there, it is not true they are Witnesses of the "Name" of Christ. They are special witnesses of Christ, period, end of story.
