Do nine out of ten Mormons read scriptures and pray with their children?
Do 96% donate to religious causes each year?
Do 77% of Mormons attend church weekly?

Some sources are listed below. I've not checked them out. 77% seems high. My experience for the USA is about 50%.

My estimations for Hungarians (but You may call it hearsay):

- Do 77% of Mormons attend church weekly?
20-25%

- Do nine out of ten Mormons read scriptures and pray with their children?
I have no experience only my wife. I don't think it is more than who are attending.

- Do 96% donate to religious causes each year?
Nobody as I know. The tithe paying rate itself is about 30-40%. (Interestingly, it is above attendance rate. By default, nobody knows it were full tithe paying.)

These are obviously super inflated percentages, Moksha. I went to the sources cited at the bottom. A lot of Pew Research polls, a paper by Susan Easton Black (where they got the 1.7 mentions of Christ per page in the Book of Mormon).

I suspect the questionable statistics you reference are all drawn from the last source listed in the wee print:

Internal statistics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Who could argue with that?

I think they are using the term 'member' with two different meanings. When using the word 'member' from survey results it's those who self indentfy as Mormons. When using the word member from internal statistics, it's anyone who is on the rolls.
The problem is that many of those on the rolls do not self indentify as Mormons. Those who indentify themselves as Mormons are probably more likely to attend church or read scriptures, but they do not represent everyone on the rolls. These two definitions should probably not be used interchangeably.

The Pew Forum's study is used as the source of information. If I recall correctly, the survey is flawed because it samples from the active population of LDS, not the general population. A more accurate (and less flattering) study is the ARES study.

The spin within this FAQ is unreal. A reminder that the Church is indeed, not true. Every square here is filled with deceptions.

Take the first square: 100% believe the Bible to be the world of god. Deception 1: ..."as far as it's translated correctly" not found. Nor that it isn't translated correctly and unable to grant salvic power on its own, therefore, we need the Book of Mormon to cover its defects.

Deception 2: It shows the Bible in the foreground and Book of Mormon in background, implying the Bible is most important when the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion, not the Bible.

Deception 3: It reports the Book of Mormon mentions Christ nearly 4000 times, leaving one to wonder how many times the Bible mentions Christ. Obviously, Given that Christianity existed 600 years before Christ and continues to track for 400 years after, covering 1000 years of (fictional) Christianity, Jesus will be mentioned more times in the Book of Mormon.

Deception 4: 100% of sacramental worship services focus on Christ. This is false. The sacrament, which is about 10% of the sacramental worship service, otherwise known as sacrament meeting, is focused on Christ. The other 90%, talks by ward members, usually focus on Joseph Smith, Reader's digest articles, the lives of mythical GAs, stories about Joseph Smith and his buddies during the restoration, and other secular sources of "Just-so" stories. One of the most important Sacrament-meeting hymns is "Praise to the man", praise to Joseph Smith.

Deception 5: The sacrament is the same as communion. This is not true, communion as part of the Eucharist was blasted as a false ritual by Bruce R. McConkie and others.

Whereever the numbers are coming from, it's hard to imagine "Mormon" having the same definition in some of those statistics as the definition that allows them to imply there are over 14 million of them by referring to "Church Membership".

Hey, I claim everyone who posts here is a member of the Church of EA. Therefore you're all EAists.

I am not paying tithing.

Unless of course you hold services on a Sunday at a sports bar then I usually tithe 15%.

If you held services at a sports bar you could call your group the EASports Church.
