Does the Book of Mormon predict the priesthood ban?

Reading through the Book of Mormon last night, I happened on an interesting (and little used) passage in Second Nephi that might give a raison d'etre for the priesthood ban, and wanted to run it by the board for comment:

Speaking of people in the last days, "They wear stiff necks and high heads; yea, and because of pride, and wickedness, and abominations, and whoredoms, they have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men." 2 Nephi 28:14

Thoughts?

I used to think that verse applied to all the non-mormon people of faith. Now I think it applies to all people of faith both Mormons and non Mormon alike. It could include the priesthood ban, blood atonement and several other things. I think there are plenty of good people of other faiths that do the best they can but they aren't perfect either.

It seems there are similar verses in D&C 1:

24 Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.
25 And inasmuch as they erred it might be made known;
26 And inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed;
27 And inasmuch as they sinned they might be chastened, that they might repent;
28 And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time.

You'll have to wait for the Church to establish that interpretation for doctrine. Until then, the doctrine is that ban was divinely appointed.

bcspace,

You will live to see the day when the Church DENIES that the priesthood-ban was divinely appointed.

Sorry bcspace, once again you are wrong. The Church has recently denied this.
For a time in the Church there was a restriction on the priesthood for male members of African descent," the statement said. "It is not known precisely why, how, or when this restriction began in the Church but what is clear is that it ended decades ago. Some have [bcspace has] attempted to explain the reason for this restriction but these attempts should be viewed as speculation and opinion, not doctrine. The Church is not bound by speculation or opinions given with limited understanding.

But feel free to quote for us the bit where the Church officially states the Priesthood Ban was divinely appointed...

Looking at all the precepts in the world, I would have to say many of men's precepts might actually lead you to truth.

You misunderstand. President Newsroom is operating under the law of Joseph, where it's okay to tell the public a lie about your doctrine and practices if it suits your interests.

The Church does not Trump the Book of Mormon.

Nor does it really even believe much of it!
