A Faith Promoting Rumor Too Far?

Who was the guy in the afternoon session who talked about the unnamed scholar during the McKay administration who said the Book of Mormon was such good Hebrew, he joined the Church?
I honestly believe this is a faith promoting rumor, though I would be happy to be proven wrong on that.
I mean, the best this scholar could come up with is "it came to pass" all over the place in the Book of Mormon is evidence of antiquity?
The lack of a name or any other identifying characteristics about this scholar is suggestive.
Maybe this GA is the next Paul Dunn?
All the Best!

Not even FAIR buys the Sami Hanna story. But evidently Correlation does.

That was one of LDS Inc's front spin docs, Quentin Cook.
My BS meter pegged when that lie fell from his lips.
During his talk, at about and hour and twenty five minutes into the
second saturday session, is where he claims this.
He said it was while he was on his mission.
He was born September 8, 1940, so this would be what 1958-59???

Sheilds even lists it on its
LDS Hoaxes and Myths page.
Anyway Sami Hanna has left the church and repudiated anything he said about the Book of Mormon.

Now consig, I have a homework assignment for you...are you ready?..listen to the conference without trying to find a negative. Try to listen to the messages and see if any advice is good for you as a human being. And let us know.

Your home war assignment is at war with itself. If consig finds something good he let's us know. And if he doesn't . . . his right to free speach is emasculated by a why me decree?
Nobody should be expected to sit through yet another iteration of Sami Hanna, that not even FAIR believes, and from an apostle and lawyer no less, and not at least get hives.
Nooo, you're not a weird people.

Your homework assignment is the same as consigs. It shouldn't be that difficult. Also, GAs are not perfect in their referencing. They are just like everyone else. Mistakes are made. Such is life.

You mean like not ordaining Black men and opposing Gay marriage?

I would argue that before giving an address in front of such a large group of people some degree of error checking should be done. But yes mistakes are made. So I think now the question is if the church will do anything to correct the mistake. Will they omit it from the Ensign edition or will it become 'official doctrine'? Will they issue a correction like newspapers do or will they allow the membership to believe this story is accurate?

I tried that once a few years back.
During half-time of the football game I was watching I switched the channel over to conference to see what was going on. It just so happened that a new speaker, a female, was being introduced. Some gal named Julie Beck. I thought, "This could be interesting." What a train wreck!! Fortunately my young daughter was coloring in her coloring book and wasn't paying attention to the words coming from Beck's mouth. She asked if we could turn the channel so we ended up watching Hannah Montana. Strangely...Hannah gave out much better advice.
Experiment done.
