Channeling BC:

Not an official distribution source. Not doctrine.

How did I do?

BC is looking for Holland's "personal opinion" bucket...

Very, very well. But I do accept the official doctrine that the Book of Abraham was indeed translated:

The Book of Abraham. A translation from some Egyptian papyri that came into the hands of Joseph Smith in 1835, containing writings of the patriarch Abraham. The translation was published serially in the Times and Seasons beginning 1 March 1842, at Nauvoo, Illinois. (See History of the Church, 4:519–34.)

Though I also can accept certain variations on what "translation" can mean.

You would have been sure and better off if you had quoted an official source. The typical anti Mormon reason not to quote an official source is to inject some yellow journalistic thing or other.

Oh, of course! The City of Enoch was "translated," and so was Moses! So he just means that the golden plates were taken up to heaven!

Holland is just another loud mouthed angry Mormon apostle and doesn't offically represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You need a statement from the First Presidency and it must be ratified by the Quorum of the Twelve to make it valid -- and put into print by an authorized printing press. BUT, those things may be considered invalid anytime in the future when another First Presidency decides to speak another tune.

Mormonism is a changing religion. They might be practicing polygamy one minute and the next minute ban it. You just never know when it comes to Mormonism.

Wait, I've got it! God inspired the ancient Nephites to write in ersatz King James English, which they called "reformed Egyptian." So all Joseph Smith had to do was read straight off the plates!

I've got it! So he used the stones to translate it back into Reformed Egyptian.
