City Creek Mall, tithing and other musings
I have been excited about the opening of city creek mall. My family and I have donated numerous dollars to the LDS Church (via tithing, fast offerings, etc) and are thrilled to see this money put towards the shopping needs of citizens and visitors. Although, I do not live close to Utah, I will get to enjoy when I visit and I have the piece of mind knowing the Church did not donate the money to needy families, full-time missionaries paying their own way, especially senior missionaries, and making sure 'lazy folks' do not continue to get Church welfare.
I was initially concerned regarding the possibilities of the misappropriation of Church funds but I am more than relieved to see that we now have a gorgeous water-fountain with flames and a mall with a retractable ceiling.
To the point: I am wondering if posters here can help me find credible sources regarding the amount of LDS dollars going into the revitalization of SLC and specifically the mall? Also, I am looking for a source regarding tithing slip changes with footnote discussing how the Church can use funds however deemed appropriate. Also, is there any truth to tithing funds no longer deemed tithing funds if the money has sat in an account for 24 or more months?
Any information provided is greatly appreciated. I hope everyone is doing well.

Don't worry, there's a General Conference coming up and I'm sure the Paid Clergy will give a proper accounting of their financial stewardship...

Tithing is only tithing when it is acting as such.

The principle of obeying the law of tithing is milk.
How exactly tithing is spent is meat that you aren't ready for.

When asked about tithing Gordon B Hinckley famously replied...

Hi DC!
It's kinda like the Hoover Dam. It was partially funded by taxpayers living in your neck of the woods.

Hi lostindc -
While not a tithe paying member, nor a member who contributes any of his precious time, energy or talents to the LDS church. I was able to visit the City Center yesterday and am appreciative of your's and the all other's tithing...er, um I mean, billions in non-tithing dollars that a non-profit church has somehow accumulated in ways and means not related to tithing.
I liked the place. Smaller than I thought, but I loved the waterfalls, and the courtyard with towering mid size skyscrapers all around. Very cool. It is rare that I have felt so "worldly" anyplace in Salt Lake City, but the LDS church accomplished that and made me feel like the 1%, with money and power if only for $1.00 in parking fees.
I went shopping at Macy's and picked up some nice new duds.
So, thanks older Mormons who have given separate and apart from tithing, land, stocks, gifts and cash to the church instead of to your families for inheritances.
The mall is swell. All your generational sacrifices were worth it to me!

(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Actually, what the Lord requires is that I give to HIM without a grudge. And I do. It's when the middle men get in the way of building the Kingdom of God (rather than the Kingdom of the Brethren... they seem to be very good at building the Kingdom of the Brethren) that I gag.
