masonic cipher time again-was william schyrver right?
Sunday night , me nevermo, with tbm my wife in tow attended a seminar hosted by greg prince in his potomac ,md. home. Dr sam brown md , u of u, lectured via power pt on Mormonism and masonry- i thk he has a new book out, "as it is in heaven" or similar.
one intriguing slide sam showed indicated that a masonic cipher appeared in the KEP- he did not discuss it.
after the lecture i asked him the source of that information, that a masonic cipher appears in the KEP- he mentioned WS as the person who made the observation which brown says is correct, although he said the remainder of WS's FAIR presentation was "out there"-he did not blast or affirm WS' work to me.
lastly he mentioned that he and two others(not WS) are working on a full presentation of the KEP and commentary etc for a future book. he said the KEP is long overdue in terms of being accessible by the public.
Did WS get the masonic cipher observation correct as far as his KEP work is concerned and if so what is the real implication of this?
thanx

KEP= quite a few different documents. Were you able to tell which document(s) he thought contained a masonic cipher?
Brown's book is "In Heaven as it is on Earth: Joseph Smith and the Early Mormon Conquest of Death"
http://www.amazon.com/In-Heaven-It-Is-Earth/dp/0199793573/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1333488490&sr=1-1

"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

My understanding is that some masonic cipher symbols made it into the KEP because they were believed to have something to do with Egyptian, pure adamic, etc., etc. It's all crazy.

Interesting. I suppose that means he's working with Hauglid on his edition of the KEP.
I've been hired by Smith-Pettit to do a paper on the meaning and purpose of the KEP by September, so you can look forward to that. in my opinion, there is no Masonic cipher in the KEP-- the few similarities are unimpressive and coincidental.

california kid
yes he said hauglid and gene/james? jensen were working the full edition KEP and he would be working with them.
sam said he was quite certain the masonic cipher was present though he did not indicate he had personally investigated it. he mentioned WS as the source of the initial observation but would not comment further on WS' work/paper.
brown comes across as definitely high IQ- he mentioned he was a believing(his words) LDS so he could/would not comment on masonic /LDS temple rituals in any detail.
his mst screed leads me to believe he knows the dark corners of mo'ism and has shelved lots of issues.
i asked him if CNN called and asked him to describe the relationship between Mormonism and masonry would he accept the call and try to answer the question or would he kick the can over to the church office bldg. he said he was confident and independent enough to answer media questions. perhaps another randy bott in the making -he said no, i'm not worried about those kinds of things.
interesting guy.

Sam isn't conservative, and he's done a lot of really good Mormon history work. His recent book on the early Mormon conquest of death was excellent.
But he has a tendency to over-interpret things-- to read too much into them with not enough evidence. I think he's wrong about the Masonic cipher being in the KEP.

I don't know about you, but I would like to see William Schryver proved right with Science.
Science!
Nothing so dramatic as splitting atoms in the lobby of the Sandy Expo Center, but rather something that can be applied to Will's Cipher Theory and provide a new and improved product.
Methodology
First we need to break the Cipher Theory down to its bare components using a high speed industrial centrifuge. Next, we will pass these bare components through an ammoniated gas mixture (similar to the atmosphere of the Maxwell Center after the luncheon catered by Taco Bell). Next, the Cipher Theory will be reconstituted into solid (but still massageable) data blocks. Finally the solidified Cipher Theory will be presented as the much anticipated game changer at the 2013 FAIR Conference.
Critics will be pink with envy at this use of Science. Science!

I think there is a danger that this thread may be seen, by WS, as evidence of him being published...

Do you suppose Will is even still active? He seemed more interested in his war against apostates than in the actual LDS church.
