In a bizarre twist, I seem to be unable to locate an appropriate Arthur Patton on Family Search. Which is odd since the Prophet was a family friend and knows exactly when where and how Arthur died. You'd think he'd have the courtesy to do the temple work for him.

It's like Monson doesn't give a toss about Arthur now that he's had a good story at a Conference or two out of Arthur's misfortune.

Maybe he didn't get permission from Arthur's mother.

who is this arthur? I am guessing Art is the subject of an uplifting story from general conference and now he is unable to be located.

Much like when I found the guy who exposed Floyd Weston and the 17 Evidences of the True Church, did Art go missing. by the way, the guy I spoke to verified that Floyd Weston was a fraud from first hand sources.

He was the subject of two uplifting stories told at two separate Conferences by Thomas S Monson. A decade or two apart. The story is about how Arthur in WW2 was lost and Thomas had to comfort his mother etc etc. the controversy is that Thomas couldn't get his story straight and the two tales bore no resemblance to each other.

In one telling Thomas explicitly states "Arthur died quickly."
But nobody, including his own mother and the armed forces, have any idea where, when or how Arthur died.

There is a thread in the archive about it.

It's a great example of Thomas recycling material and portraying fiction as fact.

Well, there was some resemblance because he recycled some of the exact same phrases...LOL

I missed Arthur Patton stories. It gets better everytime TSM tells one. I want to hear the Arthur Patton story about how he saved the galaxy, but at the end of the day he was only offered a color-coded choice of A, B, or C which were virtually all the same endings.
