Yet More Intel: A DCP "Hit Piece" on Dehlin?

This has been quite a week in terms of new information coming to light. My PM inbox has practically been blowing up. As if it wasn't enough to learn that the "Old Guard" at the Maxwell Institute allegedly have plans to "nuke" the kindly and easy-going Brant Gardner, I was just stunned this morning to discover a potentially-even-more-explosive PM this morning (the message had been sent to me late last night).

A bit of backstory: many here will recall that Dr. Peterson appeared earlier this past year on John Dehlin's podcast show, Mormon Stories. While most listeners--myself included--praised Dr. Peterson's rather revealing performance, others noted that he likely felt more comfortable because the interviewer was not Dehlin himself. Rather, it was Dan Wotherspoon--an old friend of DCP's and a contributor to the secret Mopologetic weapon, "Mormon Scholars Testify."

Of course, it's long been something of a mystery why DCP would support *anything* Dehlin-related. Indeed, in the wake of his appearance on the podcast, there was a somewhat embittered and acrimonious exchange between Dehlin and DCP on the "Comments" section of the Mormon Stories Web site.

Well, it seems that that exchange was a mere foretaste of further denunciations to come. Bear in mind that this new "intel" should be treated as what it still is: a rumor. That said, this "informant"---someone extremely reliable and who is turning up as an "informant" for the first time that I can remember---is something of a stalwart, and s/he is well-positioned to get legitimate information like this.

In any case the gist of the "intel" is this:

Agent San Diego wrote:Dan Peterson was recently planning a very harsh 100-page hit piece on John Dehlin for the [FARMS Review] but it was opposed by Gerald Bradford and apparently even found its way to the desk of a General Authority, who put a stop to its publication.

I had to suppress a chuckle when I read this. Is it true? I don't know, but it certainly has the smack of truth about it. Very, very interesting, in any case. I'm more curious than ever to see what has found its way into the latest issue of the Review.

I also jestingly claimed that one of my favorite scenes in Titanic comes when Leonardo DiCaprio (another actor who has, at least historically, irked me) freezes to death in the North Atlantic...

Welp. That explains a lot. - VRDRC

If this is true, and a General Authority really did put a stop on the publication, I take this as a very good sign that the Church truly is becoming more accommodating to NOMs.

Maybe all it took was an over-the-top, angry and bitter article on John Dehlin by DCP to make the Church leadership realize that there is no room for this type of behavior in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I wonder if he cares, certainly he realizes, that he is just encouraging the stalking and people who would be curious about it. He just made it very easy for people to do a internet search on his stalker which would lead more people here. Brilliant!!

I went there and saw some apologia for Romney's "Seamus on roof" fiasco so I can't take that blog seriously.

I wonder if Dan has read any good LA Times* articles lately that will inspire more fantastic blogging?

*By "LA Times articles" I mean right-wing/racist message boards that incorrectly quote conservative bloggers.
