By attacking Chris of course. Here is the thread that was quickly closed by the mods.

That one got closed fast.

I like that DCP used his usual tactic of exaggerating a fault to an absurd degree to deflect from someone pointing out a legitimate fault. It's such a tired, transparent tactic of his at this point that to call it tired and transparent doesn't quite do it justice.

Oh yes, because we all know DCP is just a scoundrel and a liar, liar, pants on fire.

Gee said Chris contacted his receptionist, but the way I remembered it was his receptionist was on Chris' Facebook, read Chris's comment about the rumor, and then posted that she knew Gee was in Europe and had been asked by him to photocopy a bunch of pages related to the papyri, which was consistent with the rumor that Gee was in France to do work on his discovery. I just went to the original Facebook thread to see, and I notice that she has removed her comment from the discussion.

I could be wrong and maybe Chris did contact her, but I got the impression that she saw the thread and decided to throw in her own two cents, unsolicited.

Gee's response is different than the usual cordial way that academics respond to inquiries into their research, especially when dealing with students, peers, or future colleagues within their field. Heck, I've contacted professors I've met on newsgroups with questions and they've always been happy to educate and share.

Just seems like John tossed common courtesy out the window.

Did Gee get a free trip to Europe for all this? Just curious because that would be very nice for Gee. I'd stay believing in the Book of Abraham for some free trips around the world too. ;)

I'm sure he's flying on BYU's dime. Which means the tithe payer's dime.

In LDS terms, it's called a mission, but it's anything but free.

John Gee: "(1) For a number of years, I have been gathering information not only about the Joseph Smith Papryi, but their ancient owners and the owners’ extended families. I have pursued dead ends in New York, Connecticut, Washington, Atlanta and elsewhere."

Ancient? Amongst whom, the Lamanites? Who want's to tell him there are no pyraminds in Atlanta?
