Why are TBMs so desperate for acceptance by religious right

The religious right thinks Mormonism is a weird cult. They always have. Mormons used to believe the other christian churches were all wrong. However, over the last couple decades the Mormon church has tried to soften it's position and become part of mainstream christianity. They have also tried to align themselves with the religious right. Mainstream Christianity and the religious right continue to turn their nose up to Mormonism. Why do Mormons want to be part of these groups? Does god care that Mormons are aligned with certain political and religious groups?

They want to be popular. They're tired of being this bizarre little Wasatch front church. They're ashamed of the gospel as taught by Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, etc. They'd rather associate with people like Billy Graham.

There's no desperation. What is there is a knowledge they, because they also believe the Bible, are close to LDS truth but just don't see it yet.

Mormons don't believe the Bible.
They only believe the bits that Mormonism determines have been translated correctly. Unfortunately Mormons play their cards close to their chest and won't tell anyone which bits are translated incorrectly...

Mormons intend to eventually dominate mainstream Christianity culturally (if not genetically) the same way Lehi's descendants dominated the indigenous cultures of the New World.
If only to prove that it can be done.

I think the leaders are craving political power, and perceive that the religious right has a great deal of that (for now) and want a piece of that pie.

They probably want to fuse onto the religious right the same way Catholics did. Catholics used to be viewed suspiciously by Protestants, in part because Catholicism was the religion of many immigrant groups who were of lesser genetic stock than the Protestants of northern Europe. Today Catholics, or at least the Catholic hierarchy, have joined the ranks of the nominal "moral authority" who are called in to testify about women's reproductive health and stuff. Mormon men want to be at that table Mr. Issa telling women what health care they want or don't want!

This seems to be solid proof that I'm
not a TBM, because I
don't want acceptance by the religious right, and I
don't want to be part of the mentioned groups.
On the other hand, I will take issue with anyone who claims the LDS Church isn't Christian whenever I hear it.
