It’s not just Joseph’s sex life that causes many Mormons to mistrust their leaders, but also the church’s persistent commitment to right-wing politics.

The irony is, of all the controversial things in doctrinal sources that the apologists claim are not doctrine, the same apologists will claim that the church's commitment to right-wing politics is official doctrine.

This Salon article was written by Troy Williams, who is also the playwright of a great play that has run in SLC for a few years: Sister Dottie S. Dixon

Check it out.

Nice. I'm so glad Mitt is the GOP candidate. He can't win, but stuff like this will in coming out constantly all year. Sunshine is good for the COB soul, even though they react to it like vampires.

The article repeats the "leaving in droves" myth so it certainly isn't going to be reliable as to it's conclusions.

What you don't comprehend is that so-called "right wing politics" is based on a particular IDEOLOGY. And that ideology IS most certainly compatible and the SAME as LDS Doctrines, teachings, and theology.

I became a Republican when I really wasn't an expert between the sides, because I researched the history, the fruits, the behaviors, and the ideology's promoted by the two sides. The Democratic side, especially the more liberal side of it, was simply not compatible with LDS Theology. Yes, some small aspects are, but overall, liberalism is completely anathema to the Gospel of Christ and the Church.

The only things liberalism has in common with the Gospel is most liberals believe in being helpful, and being good stewards. But guess what, one doesn't need to be a liberal to believe and do those things, those are also Conservative/Republican values. Nearly every other agenda and ideology of liberalism/Democrat is completely contrary to Mormonism, is Satan's counterfeit ideology's.

Really, the only reason any good Mormon is a Democrat or especially a liberal is because they either don't embrace certain aspects of the Gospel, they pervert certain aspects, or they are being deceived by liberalism, or aspects of all. Obama for example is a great deceiver, pretending he's more conservative than he actually is, and many people who are actually conservative but on the Democrat side are deceived by his smooth talking. Proof of this is that studies have shown that some 75% of the country is actually mostly conservative. Thus, liberals are able to deceive about 25% of the people with their rhetoric who would actually be conservative if they understood things. Liberals constantly cover who they are and what they actually believe and are trying to do. It's all in their teachings. They know they can't overthrow America by force or their ideology, so they take baby steps.

Two or three times, before elections I think, a member of our ward's bishopric has read a letter from Church headquarters declaring that neither of the two biggest political parties are incompatible with LDS theology. So Ldsfaqs doesn't even speak for the LDS Church, let alone all Latter-day Saints.

For the record, I've been a Republican for something on the order of fifteen years now, but I'm a moderate, not a conservative, and don't find that at odds with LDS teachings at all. Prior to joining the Republican Party I supported Paul Tsongas in the Democratic caucuses in Washington State in 1992, and don't regret that one iota. I was also in attendance at the BYU devotional Harry Reid gave some years back, and am firmly convinced that that man is a completely genuine member of the LDS Church.

He would have if he spoke for the Church, but he doesn't. As I said in the other article, the Church considers both the Democratic and the Republican Party compatible with LDS theology.

Furthermore, I don't think right wing is an accurate description of the LDS Church politically; its more center right.

I'd say it's more head-up-its-ass denial than center right or right wing.
