There may not be a god, but a well-executed daguerreotype still takes my breath away...particularly one by Southworth & Hawes of Boston (1843-1863). Digital scans don’t do these things justice. You have to see one in real life to appreciate how exquisite some of these images are. This one was struck in 1850.

I really enjoy these show-and-tell threads. You learn so much more about people by discussing the kinds of art and music they enjoy compared to whether or not they believe Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
