How has continuing revelation blessed your life?

This question was asked in Sunday School yesterday. No one could provide a concrete example. The best answer was "it's nice to know that we belong to a church with continuing revelation."

No examples of continuing revelation were offered.

Are there any examples of continuing revelation? What of major import has come out of the mouth of any recent LDS leader in recent years? Perhaps it's the changes in the temple ritual....or the decree/suggestions on ear piercings...or the firing of all janitors so members can scrub the toilets....? I know, got to be the "revelation" on blacks and the priesthood that ended years of racism. And not a "Thus sayeth the Lord" in sight.

I can think of personal revelation that has blessed my life but I honestly can't think of any revelations from the prophet within my lifetime that have blessed my life. In fact I'm not aware of any revelations from the president of the church that have come within my lifetime. I was born in 1979. Wow.

Our bishop sixteen years ago told my wife and I we really needed to adopt three young children; we did it largely out of faith that he was right. The best decision I ever made in my life was to marry my wife. The second best decision I ever made was adopting those three children.

That is amazing.

Most of the time, when a couple brings adoptive children into their lives, it ends with the children either being dropped live into a wood-chipper, flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen and shattered against the pavement from a three-story drop, or that they all run away and become gay. Nasty gay.

This truly testifies of the spirit of discernment your bishop wielded that day.

How could he possibly have known those children might have brought you such joy???

You were, what? 16? when the God of Abraham revealed the two-holes-iz-one-hole-too-many law?

By following this good counsel, we have been saved these last 17 years from the all-too-frequent sight of a whorish slutty sister with two earrings per ear.

Good for you. The world is better for your unselfishness and love.

One night my daughter asked if she could get her ears pierced for the second time.

Little did I know, but she had a rare condition wherein she would bleed to death if she had a second piercing.

She has a major artery that somehow loops down and back up the earlobe. Apparently the first one missed it due to being dead center.

Nonetheless, I found this out later after fasting for 40 days and 41 nights.

What mess that would have made in the mall. Thank GOD for a prophet who counseled against a deadly second set of piercings!
