Re: It's official: Obama backs same-sex marriage.
"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Roberts, in an interview to appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday. Excerpts of the interview will air Wednesday night on ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer.”

He just lost the Mormon vote.

I wonder how this is going to play in the swing states in the Midwest and the South?

Good one. (Although even among the Mormons, a lot of young people are not so homophobic. They don't really think it's a big deal.)

I really think that all those who would vote against him based on this issue were already not voting for him.

It's a matter of getting people to vote for him -- I'm not sure this plays real well in the Hispanic community or even in the African American community. What Obama has to worry about is people staying home on election day. And I think it could actually cause some Hispanics to vote for Romney.

I don't know what concerns Mormons more, that he supports SSM, or that his views on SSM evolved.

Doubtful, given Romney's statement that he would veto the Dream Act.
Obama has been in favor of abortion rights from day one. Do you really think his personal support of marriage equality would alienate anyone who wasn't already alienated by his pro-choice stance?
