And they call us the Trailer Park

Post by _SteelHead »

but that MAD house truly is the insane asylum.

The ban hammer has been wielded and there appears to be no rhyme nor reason to its application, other than those who ask that the rules be enforced are being banned, and the rule breakers have immunity.

Temp Ban on Bond for pointing out forbidden sock puppetry.

Full on Ban for MSJack for pointing out some one was using a PM in their sig line.

The only thing consistent over there is that the rules do not apply to some, and the moderation policy is totally ad hoc.

To quote an apt book:

"No sentimentality, comrade!" cried Snowball from whose wounds the blood was still dripping. "War is war. The only good [critic] is a dead one."

And

"ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS."

That place is a shining beacon of how not to run a discussion forum. There can be no pretense to an free exchange of ideas when an elect cadre are above the rules. There is no pretense of academia or scholarship, as that would mean the promotion of the exchange of dissenting views. There is not even a pretense left of Dialogue nor Discussion. The name is an ironic misnomer, and oxymoron of epic proportion.

I suggest a new name: The Bully Pulpit of the Elect

which being interpreted means:

Rameumptom

Who else fell victim to the latest pogrom? Kevin?
It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener at war.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

I find it difficult to participate in a board where your post may be silently deleted and you may be banned from participating in a thread. Where threads are routinely locked down without explanation. Sensitive topics such as the priesthood ban are essentially placed off limits. Also any critique of the moderation policies is strictly forbidden. Apparently you aren't even allowed to point out when someone is breaking the rules.

Sometimes I think that critics should refuse to participate on MD&D. The table is titled. The game is rigged. If apologists wish to address critics force them out onto a open discussion board where moderators cannot rig the discussion to make it seem like the apologists are faring better than what they have earned.

Don't you guys understand the true nature of those guys over there. Look. They believe that when their precious Jesus (after 2000 years) finally comes back in the clouds of heaven that he is going to slay us all and burn the Trailer Park to ashes. We are all going to die! The Mormon Messiah is going to slay us all and our bodies will turn to ash as our spirits are cast into hell.

Once you understand that their God is going to murder us for our disbelief and wickedness you can begin to understand that they will treat us like demons from hell that need to be cast into a lake of fire into which the wicked are cast. Their self righteous disgust for us is truely Christian. But their Jesus is not coming back and the Trailer Park will continue to grow and cover the whole earth while their ugly church continues to bleed members.

The place has become a mirror of how the old Tanner Board was run. How ironic since ZLMB was started as a direct result of how many LDS were treated on the Tanner board and it seems the MDD is populated by many defenders who came to ZLMB after the Tanner board purge.

I was just thinking the same thing.

You know, Jason, this is really scary. Could we be twins separated at birth?

I doubt the board will be around much longer. Participants can only take that kind of abuse for so long before they find greener pastures.

I've participated in Mormon themed boards for 22 years now. I ran BBS's from 1982 to 1995 - and participated heavily on the packet networks from 1989 to 1995 when the Internet took over. Every time there has been heavy handed moderation, the board or forum just ends up withering away.

I've seen good Mormon forums where Mormons discuss their own religion and their own lives without worrying about critics. But it has been a very long time since that has happened. Mormon Discussions is the first board I've ever seen in my entire history of being online on forums (30 years now) where there has been NO moderation and both sides can discuss issues at hand. Big thanks to Shades for doing this! I don't even do this on my own forums because I try to foster more of a recovery atmosphere to invite people who are questioning. This place is too hostile for them - but they'll get banned at MAD.

As long as MAD is connected to FAIR, NWI and the old guard apologists, it can't survive. They take a hard line approach to Mormonism and like North Korea, dissent in any form is punished. They can't allow anyone to ask legitimate questions because the answers could lead to answers that would cause a member to leave the Cult. That can't be allowed. Anything that doesn't lead to the Cult is true is considered bad. What a way to live and think.

At MAD, you will obey or you will be punished. Hmmm, sounds like the Mormon Plan Of Salvation(TM)(R)(C) Intellectual Reserve, Inc.

MDB is definitely a unique experience. I am glad that I am a part of it. Thanks, Shades, for putting up with me as both a Moderator and a participant.

I think that each message board has their own unique crowd and goals. I also enjoy moderating for your board, Infy. And yes, your board has a different "feel". My private board does as well.

IMHO, there is room in the Internet universe for all types of message boards. As far as whether or not MDD will survive, I sort of disagree with you. I think that even if every single critic decided to cease participation, there are enough folks there who simply enjoy hearing themselves talk to allow MDD to continue to, maybe not thrive, but at least survive.

Could be! Stranger things have happened. Or we just are both so brilliant that we share the same thoughts.
