Peterson and Schryver: Slavery Was a Blessing to Blacks

I admit that I have been following Dan Peterson's blogging enterprise. Most of it is typical Peterson fluff. He seems to be trying to break some kind of blogger record for most posts in a year. But most of the posts consist of only a paragraph or two. Some of them are only a single sentence with a link to an article elsewhere on the web.

Still, I couldn't help but shake my head at this post from yesterday: A Hearty Welcome to Imetatron. In the post, Peterson welcomes his "friend" Will Schryver to the blogosphere. He characterizes Schryver as "an interesting thinker and a true original". Sounds like a pretty tepid endorsement on the surface. But then Peterson proceeds to fill out his post by telling an anecdote concerning something said by Uncle Tom Sowell. Why this anecdote? Well, because Schryver's opening post on his blog is in a similar vein: slavery was actually God's will and it should be viewed as a blessing to those lucky Africans who made the trip across the Atlantic in those fancy cruise ships in order to fulfill the will of the Almighty for them to become more like his chosen people (white people, of course) by picking a lifetime worth of pure, delightsome cotton.

What are these people (Peterson and Schryver) thinking? You'd expect that in this "Mormon Moment" election year they would be conscious of the need of being just a little politically correct. Then again, maybe this is just the way they think Mormons should address the inevitable "Curse of Cain" questions that will be coming up with greater regularity as November approaches.

In Peterson's defense, he does post a really cool photo of the eclipse in this blog post, along with photos of him, his wife, and Will Schryver and his wife and daughter.

AAAAAAAAAAAARGH! UUUUUUUUURGH!

I don't care if I am banned for life. Where does Schryver live? I shall go there, kidnap him and sell him as a slave to a sheikh in Saudi Arabia who wants a chief eunuch with a ponytail.

Then we can see how grateful he is to me for rescuing him from Mormonism.

That's worse than what Randy Bott said. At least I have heard Randy Bott's apologetics in TBM circles before. I don't think I've ever heard a TBM argue that slavery was ordained of god and black people should be grateful their ancestors came to America. Wow.

LOL. I can imagine apologists using the argument that it is really expensive to travel across the ocean, so those blacks were lucky to get a free ride. In fact, that is probably why blacks are a bunch of free loaders today. We set a bad precedent with the free cruise.

Peterson is parroting old school doctrine that the Cult is trying desperately to get people to forget. If Peterson isn't careful, he's going to end up going the way of Bott.

Everyone knows why blacks couldn't receive the penishood. But make mention of that to the Cult and or Cult members and you get a firestorm of misdirections.

Peterson fears that we will call him a racist - so he uses the words of other authors to convey the message he wants us to see, without actually saying it.

I wonder if Peterson called Schryver to repent for his misogyny.

"I thank God Almighty that he saw fit to snatch my forefathers from the darkness of their lives in Africa and plant them here in this land where, after not many generations, the majority of them are finally breaking free from the bondage of ignorance and dependence. Yes, slavery is inherently evil. Many suffered, not the least the slave traders and slave owners stained by its shame. But there was a divine purpose in these things, and I refuse to mock God by failing to see His hand in all things. And, most of all, I refuse to see my children returned to the slavery of dependence on those who condescendingly view themselves as our superiors."

Those lucky slaves! And thanks to them, we have light cotton, which has played a choice role in the lives of young Latter-day Saints in the 1970's.

You know, I often think that, much like Pharaoh, King of Egypt, the plantation owners were trying to imitate the order of the priesthood. For example, the sacred temple ordinance of receiving a new name.

Surely the merciful and wondrous plan of our Heavenly Father was manifested when, because of choices they made in the pre-mortal existence, certain of His children were foreordained to be born in the lineage of Cain, that the blessings of being another person's property could be theirs. And to think that we live in a time when politically correct leftists decry the practice of buying and selling black people as livestock.

Oh, dear God, please, please, PLEASE let Schryver be published by the Maxwell Institute, and let that be merely a steeping stone to the glorious day when his work will be found in the Ensign.

And thus we see another example of how the Lord inspires people to travel by ship to America, that the blessings of the Gospel may be theirs.........
