Overall, 53 percent of Americans say gay marriage should be legal, steady the past year but up from 36 percent in just 2006. Thirty-nine percent "strongly" support it, while 32 percent are strongly opposed - the first time strong sentiment has tilted positive. Six years ago, by contrast, strong views on the issue were negative by a broad 27-point margin.

Why isn't the world listening to the prophet? The brethren must feel like Lehi, warning the world but it isn't listening.

Why aren't the Bretheren listening/ Give the world what it wants before it's too late and Mormonism has to hasten up some lame excuses for its reversal a la Polygamy and the Priesthood ban...

Remember those arguments about the "will of the people" being overturned when prop 8 was? You won't hear those anymore now that the will of the people is against them.

I'm waiting for Packer or someone to say "Forget everything that I have said, president Monson or whomsoever has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world."

Considering how many Mormons today seem to have so much genuine revulsion for gay people, one wonders if the common "wept with joy" meme isn't older members engaging in a little creative amnesia.

Like Mitt Romney:
I can remember when, when I heard about the change being made. I was driving home from, I think, it was law school, but I was driving home, going through the Fresh Pond rotary in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I heard it on the radio, and I pulled over and, and literally wept.

Romney graduated from law school in 1975.

"We don't know why the Church opposed same-sex marriage."

"The Church's opposition to same-sex marriage had nothing to do with sexual orientation or whom you want to marry."

"Some have attempted to explain the reason for opposing same-sex marriage but these attempts should be viewed as speculation and opinion, not doctrine. The Church is not bound by speculation or opinions given with limited understanding. We condemn all past homophobia by individuals both inside and outside the Church."

"Elder Jeffrey R. Holland called those speculations about the Church's opposition to same-sex marriage 'folklore' that 'must never be perpetuated,' according to the Deseret News. 'I think almost all of them were inadequate and/or wrong.'"
