What makes church boring?

I am always shocked when someone says they learn something new when they go through the temple. After a couple of times it was the same thing over and over and I really didn't seem to learn anything new. Sure there was stuff I forgot but it's not like it was new when we did it again. Church leaders say that if you don't learn something new then it is your fault.
This was the same with Church. How many of you have heard a talk on the holy ghost or on repentence. It was very rare that I learned something new.
Anybody hear people say that every time they read the Book of Mormon they get something new out of it? It's a pretty long book so I guess it doesn't surprise me but is this something new really that important?
After a while of going to church I started to think that these Mormon leaders and a lot of church members were pretty damned stupid if they kept learning new things at church. To me it was always the same old crap and I stopped learning.
Other than the Mormon church proven false boredom was another big factor for me leaving.

I did like going to fast and testimony meetings. It was just like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates - you never knew what you were going to get. True, most testimonies were pretty bland but every once in a while you would hear something really good. This one time a sister got up and ranted on about how she knew that everyone in the ward hated her and then at the very end she literally said "Oh yeah, I know the Church is true and I love the Bishop blah, blah, blah" and then sat down. It was priceless

When I was younger I honestly started to believe that I just had better memory than everyone else. I mean, why did we repeat these topics so often? I even remembered all the jokes that were told!
Mormonism itself isn't a boring topic. But processed correlated Mormonism is boring as hell.

I always loved sunday school, where they would rehash the same crap over and over again until you die. The teacher in Gospel Doctrine asks questions like, "So, who did Joseph Smith see in the sacred grove?" What person in GD class doesn't know the official correlated answer to that? "Why did Nephi and his brothers have to go back to Jerusalem?" A couple hands shoot up. "To get the brass plates." "Very good." Really? Didn't everyone learn this crap in primary? Sometimes there is an old guy in the front row, who was alive during Joseph F. Smith's presidency, that has some weird theory, backed up by old doctrines, that makes the teacher nervous. At least those guys make the class interesting.

I don't know if this is common elsewhere, but it seems every few years there is another challenge to reread the Book of Mormon. Either done by the mission, stake, or the ward.
Has anyone ever had a New Testament challenge? How about an old testament challenge?

I usually loved those guys. At least there some disagreement!

I was one of those folks who claimed to learn something new at the temple. All I can say now is that I wanted to learn something new. I definitely pondered while in there. I never pondered anything spicy though.
You know what made church more boring? Those damn "teachings of the prophets" manuals. The instructor would often have us read paragraphs from the pages. There was very little discussion. Oh, but then I moved into SithLord's ward and learned about the wives of Joseph Smith. Now that was exciting!
