First Edition of Book of Mormon stolen in Arizona

Post by _Bond James Bond »

Well that sucks for the owner, although an angel may have taken the book because:

Schlie [the book's owner], a convert to the Mormon faith whose store is a block away from a large Mormon temple in downtown Mesa, sparked controversy in 2005 when she started to sell framed pages out of the book for between $2,500 and $4,000.

So is it ethical to sell pages from a holy scripture?

Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

Unless the buyer's or seller's 'need' is acute and distorting the situation, the buyer values the item more in terms of dollars than the seller. The seller is willing to part with the item for $X, which the buyer is willing to part with to obtain that item.

No one needs pages of a 1st edition of the Book of Mormon, in the way a person may need food, medicine, and shelter.

So, I think it is entirely ethical, a win-win even. Seller got top dollar, buyer got what he or she values in that same measure of dollars.
