Mormon Voices Expresses Support for "Treatment" of Gays
An interesting "Press Release" from our friends over at Mormon Voices (a.k.a. "The Mormon Defense League"):

Well, we already know that key leaders among the Mopologists view gays as "Korihors" whose work is hopelessly tainted, and now we have Scott Gordon and John Lynch saying that they think it's important that LDS gays be able to get "treament" for their same-sex attraction. I wonder if they approved of the electroshock therapy that was administered at BYU? Further, given all the fallout associated with Prop 8, you would think that Lynch and Gordon would be a little bit more careful in terms of the positions they take on this topic.

Maybe gay Mormons should be presented as superheros like Green Lantern ( http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/06/g ... y-so-what/ ) then the Mormon church could be proud of gay Mormons and use them is I'm a Mormon ads.

The church was under a lot of pressure to change their position on blacks receiving priesthood and in 1978 they finally caved in and got together and all managed to get good feelings about letting blacks have the priesthood -- hence, a revelation was born. Wow, and they did it without a seer stone with a hole in it.
The time is coming when the pressure on the church will become unbearable as they continue pin sin on the backs of every gay person that practices their sexual orientation in a perfectly natural way as ordained by the blessings of science and mother nature.
So, will the church cave in to the gay question? Eventually, yes, they will. But, the church is going to go through a lot of hell before they finally do. The opposition will mount and the pressure will rise to an unbearable level for the church. The church will look stupid and totally unscientific. I look forward to the church looking bad. It gives me pleasure to see the church look stupid. And the Mormon temple will be looked upon as cult symbols and reminders of just how dumb the Mormons really are as they practice Masonic rites.
I'd like my electric shock now, please. I'll bet that will give me a real charge. Wire me and push the button! Yeah!

I wonder if this was done to get some currency with the Church hierarchy? The people who staff Mormon Voices don’t exactly put their moral before other more base principles.

Discontented with just ruining Utah, Mormons continue trying to make California just as miserable of a place.
We give them some In-N-Outs and all of a sudden California is a new Mormon colony. Mormons reading this, please just stay in Utah if you have to persecute gay people. Holy smokes.

That's an interesting thought, Stak, especially since there is a liberal faction in FAIR--people like juliann who are more liberal-leaning on many political issues. One thing I wonder is if MV is a sort of "splinter group," where this more radical element, w/ Gordon, Lynch, et al. can go off and do there own insane things apart from the more moderate influence of folks like Kevin Barney.
But you may be right that they're trying to curry favor with the hierarchy. I was told at one point that the Brethren help to finance FAIR via "back door" channels, whatever that means.

Well, I have to say this, anyone who is free to join the Moonies ought to be free to engage in this useless and potentially harmful "therapy." Next thing you know, they'll try to outlaw the church that tells people they can ungay themselves somehow. Lulz. Of course, religion has been the most fruitless form of reparative therapy in the history of humankind. They've been attempting to get people to stop screwing the next door neighbor, stop masturbating, stop lying, cheating, stealing, and murdering, all with dubious success, for centuries. What a joke!

I think what cracks me up most about this is the official tone of Mormonvoices, like it's some kind of big political player that shakes the world with every new blog entry. I'm sure the "California Legislature" is in panic mode right now as Mormonvoices has just "called upon them" for something.
