Surprise. Male white slave-owners raped female slaves or otherwise coerced them into sex.
I seem to remember that a group of black men who offered to join the Union army during the Civil War promised their prospective commander that "the only coward blood in our veins is the white". That seems to me quite a neat way to put it.
