Is Monson just a placeholder?

For the sake of this OP, let's assume there is a god, a Mormon god at that, and that the LDS FP/12 are this god's anointed.

What in the world (I mean universe) is this god thinking in having Monson as god's 'mouthpiece' when Monson (and therefore god) has nothing to say?

TSM is just one of the caretaker leaders of Mormonism. He isn't inspired or interested enough in finding out anything from the Lord. He's happy to tell his anecdotes and urban legends in place of stories of real experiences with the Lord.

Yeah, it's been a helluva a 60-year ride for that Pepsi drinker.

He speaks all the time starting at, but by no means limited to, twice a year at GC.

And so far, what has he EVER reported that the Lord has told him?

"Another cookie, my dear?" Walmart Hickey, Prizzi's Honor, 1986

Since Hickey was doing TSM shtick too, was Hickey a prophet of god too?

He speaks, but he does not say anything

Perhaps this is a hard saying, so who can hear it? Why did YOU not become a prophet of God SP?

John 6: 45
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

When do you suppose it is that we are first taught of God and well before we come unto Christ? Before the age of accountability? Why did you not hear him SP? Perhaps we make a great mistake in dominating little children's attention and forcing them to be entertained constantly, so as to keep them from listening, listening in the silence, searching for a clue in their fears, wondering, choosing to learn from another dimension. Then there might be more prophets.

We need to allow children to grow spiritually when they are most perfectly worthy.

Me? Meh. I haven't heard anything. But like Monson, I could re-hash the same tired points at a pulpit a couple of times a year, and throw in a few life stories. I've eaten cookies and even drank Pepsi in my life, too.

When we first start to understand language and abstract notions, at least that's what looking back on my own experience it seems to have been.
Nightlion wrote:Before the age of accountability?
At what age is that? I was pretty young, the age that I first recall hearing that 'heavenly father wouldn't like that', 'let's thank heavenly father for the food before we eat', 'I'll help you say your prayers so you can thank heavenly father'.
Nightlion wrote:Why did you not hear him SP?
He doesn't speak loudly enough? He doesn't have anything to say to me? He isn't speaking, for any of a score of reasons?

I share your notion that we might be making a great mistake in dominating little children's attention and forcing them to be entertained constantly. But I have a different idea as to what the price or consequence is.

by the way, what purpose do you think is served by god not speaking LOUDLY and CLEARLY to everyone? Is he able to?

What was his last official Prophecy, last official Revelation and last official Translation?
