Piling on Peterson

I can understand why an academic journal chose to go in a new direction. I can understand frustration with Mormon apologetics. I can understand frustration with DCP's internet persona.
I cannot understand why everyone is piling on DCP while he is down. Even if DCP is your enemy, have a little class in battle.
When a fighter beats his/her opponent the fighter must help the opponent up.
What has DCP done to you? If nothing, pat him on the back and let him know he had a good run. Most of us have been punched in the face. Some of us have been knocked silly. Some of us have knocked others silly. When the fighting is done can you not shake hands and let the opponent regroup?

If you think these threads are piling on, you've never been in a board war or a flame out. Most of the posts are either supportive or neutral. And the rest? Well... what goes around, etc.

Forgot to add...
Apparently I am perceiving the DCP situation wrong. According to harmony the vast majority of posters on this board are neutral or positive towards DCP and this situation. Likewise, I am guessing based on responses that DCP has harmed many posters in a very personal manner.
