And Then of Course, There's This...

A few minutes ago I got back from attending a presentation where TKStrong defended her master's thesis in Sociology. Her subject was the social implications of leaving the LDS Church in Utah. I like her title: "This Was the Place." I liked her presentation. Well done! In a room of about 12 people attending I sat next to John Dehlin.

My point in writing is that afterward John volunteered to me that he has left the church -- hasn't resigned yet, but has left. He told me that this is public information and I was free to mention it on PostMo. He said it was the integrity problem that finally took him out. He couldn't remain a member and avoid the problems with the church any longer. His personal integrity would no longer allow him to look the other way. He and his wife have both left. He's meeting with the Stake President in a few days, I assume regarding his disaffection, but I could be wrong. Congratulations to you and your wife on your 'graduation' from Mormonism John!!!!

And?

So, your bishop confides to a friend that he watched a porno 8 years ago. That friend publishes the fact online, and Droopy, having googled his bishop's name, goes onto a message board to republish the fact for everyone to see. Because, as we all know, people never change their minds, never repent, and we all want the Droopys of the world going around to hold this over the heads of any members of the Church he gets a bee in his bonnet over.

You are quite a piece of work, Droopy.

So much for Droopy coming back for one reason and one reason only.

John can speak for himself, and has, many times. His journey has been one made in fits and starts, and is entirely his own. This is one reason both apologists and apostates have at times been frustrated with him--he has gone back and forth and around and around regarding his stance vis-a-vis the LDS church. Where he was 8 years ago is not where he is today, and his path has not been linear from there to here. Why Droopy feels the need to criticize a fellow member of the LDS church publicly like this is beyond me.

I didn't realize it was already 2019. Time flies.

Good catch. The date of the post was May 2011. Obviously John changed his mind, if this is even true.

Where did Droopy get the idea that it was 8 years ago?

He's at least 8 years behind the times.

Probably from Jeff Ricks' post. Under his username it says "Joined 2004-07-19". Since he's the founder of the board, that is probably when the PostMormon board was created.

John Dehlin didn't start Mormon Stories until 2005, If I recall correctly.

Dehlin stated on ME podcsat that he is an atheist/agnostic. He doesn't believe any of the LDS truth claims. I don't think this in and of itself is a reason for church discipline but he's in no way a believer.

He presents himself as a person with Mormon heritage

Few discoveries are more irritating than those which expose the pedigree of ideas.
