Gladys Knight: I wouldn't vote for Romney
Singing legend Gladys Knight gave her two cents about the presidential race in a recent interview with BET. Asked if she’d like to see Republican candidate Mitt Romney, a fellow Mormon, win the White House, Knight replied:
Not now. I have to be honest with you; it's not about your faith, even if the church itself in its structure is perfect, the people in it are not. That's not to say he's not a good person, don't get me wrong. But I would not vote for him just because he is Mormon. I want to know what he is going to do for the people. I want to see the compassion. I want to talk about something else besides the money. I know how hard it is to send two kids to college when you ain't got nothing. I know people may not think of me in that way, but this business gives you ups and downs. ... I am a Barack Obama fan, from head-to-toe, always have been. He's not perfect; nobody is going to be that way. Until you sit in that office, at that desk, don't tell me what you're going to do because you are going to come in and have some of the same problems as he did.

If Bro Romney is a temple recommend caring Mormon, why wouldn't he get ALL Mormon votes?

Because some of us have finally figured out that really is only a badge declaring "loyalty to the church"...it has nothing to do with being a good person.

Perhaps the same reason temple lockers have locks.

Because the idea that somehow LDS Church members are mindless automatons when it comes to politics is a myth. Why do you think BCspace wants to excommunicate all Church democrats? It's because there ARE LDS Democrats! :)

Because everyone has their agency. Holding a current TR doesn't change the fact that voting Democrat is a betrayal of God and country nor does it excuse or justify one from doing so.

If nothing else, you're consistent. Maybe the Democrats in the church are just tares waiting for the burning.
It does warm my apostate heart to see such infighting among Mormons. You folks will destroy the church, and I won't even have to lift a finger. I'll just sit back and watch you argue about who is more morally and politically righteous.

It's a good thing for both Romney and the LDS church that your view is not universally held by Mormons.
I mean, geez, we already get flak for being a monolithic voting block, and people already mistrust us for blindly following our leaders. Can you imagine the backlash if it were actually church doctrine that you can only vote for one political ideology?
So keep it up, bcspace. If you're successful in convincing all Mormons that voting Democrat is evil, then you'll see some
real anti-mormon persecution.

Sure they do. "Democrat" is simply a catch-all word that accurately identifies someone as being in opposition to doctrine. Most Mormons would agree by going down a list of sins and doctrines that such a person is in opposition. I merely skip to the end because I've been down that road many many times.

There's no need. Just excommunicate for apostasy those who publicly support, for example, homosexuality or socialism, both in direct opposition to major doctrines. Most, if not all, will be Democrats or worse.

I've never met an active Mormon in real life who doesn't agree with me and that includes GA's. The Church is merely protecting itself on the PR front for the moment.

They are. Unless they repent.

You should see us all at some Stake high council, Bishopric, or priesthood meeting discussing the latest news before the meeting starts. Someone might say "I can't believe Harry Reid is still a member of the Church" to which there is always a unanimous rumble of assent. There is no infighting in the Church. There is only infighting on obscure message boards like this one or MDD between apostates and those on the road to apostasy.

I doubt that since you do not live along the mo'rridor of Utah or one of the mo'enclaves of ID or AZ.
I find that most active Mormons outside of these areas tend to be more liberal and accepting of outside views.
