Why would anyone want to be a part of that?

bcspace's stupid response to the obvious racism in the Book of Mormon Stories book made me wonder something. If you went by what we see among Internet apologists/defenders of the LDS church, you would think Mormons were arrogant, aggressive, mocking, racist, misogynist, right-wing lunatics. Do any of these guys think this is an attractive image for potential converts?

Most Mormons i have known are not like this at all but are good people trying to do good and follow Jesus. They would be sickened by the antics of too many of the apologists. No wonder Elder Uchtdorf told them to stop it. I say go for it!

I don't let the "most Mormons" off the hook so easily. Why do so few of them ever confront the racist, misogynist, right-wing nutjobs who speak for Mormonism on these message boards? Where are all these faithful Mormons coming in and countering drooopy, bcspace, ldsfaqs, etc.? Why is it only the critics and apostates who take these guys on and call them on their stupid crap? Silence=Consent.

Only a conditioned racist would think the Book of Mormon stories book is racist. The proof is in the pudding. Witness the fact that you can't even address what I actually said as to why it's not racist but instead must start an attack thread of your own.

An entire group of people are cursed with a dark skin for being wicked, and you don't think that's racist because no specific behavior is pointed out. That's so stupid that it barely merits a response.

Laman and Lemuel’s followers called themselves Lamanites.
They became a dark-skinned people. (Q: How did they become dark-skinned?)
(A: )God cursed them because of their wickedness.

See, bc? It's right there--the Lamanites became dark-skinned as a result of a curse God put on them because of their wickedness. Q: What characteristics did these folks cursed with dark skin share?
A:
The Lamanites became lazy and would not work.
(So, to sum up: The Lamanites were wicked and lazy, so God cursed them. The curse was to make them dark-skinned.)

It's all right there in black and white. reading comprehension clearly is not one of your strengths, is it?

Most Mormons are not aware of the BS these guys are spewing. They would be disgusted if they were. I hope.

I don't know Equality. Most of what they post is so morally beneath contempt I think ignoring it is the best course of action. At best, those kind of remarks on this message board are just shallow trolling. At worst? Well, my time is limited and I prefer to spend my days interacting with compassionate and decent human beings.

True of most Mormons, But there are still many who frequent these boards, and who lurk here, some of whom may be reading this very thread. But they won't criticize a fellow Latter-day Saint because their loyalty is to the church tribe and not to truth or to Christian values they claim to espouse. As long as they sit on the sidelines and let these yahoos spew their hate and ignorance, it reflects poorly on all of them. If non-Mormons get the idea that Mormons are like yahoo bot, droopy, bcspace, why me, stemelbow, Simon Belmont, etc., the Mormons who fail to challenge those folks are as much responsible as the idiots they fail to challenge.

You may be right. You would think most Mormons would want these guys to stop embarrassing the church. I enjoy watching them do it. Makes my mission to warn off investigators that much easier.
