Can the most bigoted, racist, misogynistic, greedy organization in the world even qualify to label someone a Bigot?

Cher wrote, "I Feel if he (Obama) doesn't get all his DUCKS IN A ROW we'll b forced 2 listen 2Uncaring Richy Rich! The whitest man in MAGIC UNDERWEAR in the White House (White House)." Her remarks have upset prominent members of the Mormon church, who wear formal garments known as "celestial underwear." The term "magic underwear" is considered offensive.

If Ted Kennedy had said that drinking and driving was bad it would still be a true statement.
I am no fan of the Mormon Church but people like Cher make all kinds of statements about the church that they would never say about other bogus religions like Islam

Sure they can, it doesn't mean they are right though.

+1
Frankly, I am sick of the media and celebrities attacking the Mormons nonstop while pulling their punches on other religions, like Islam. It's the same reason why there are so many movies made about the atrocities that the Nazis committed during World War II while there are so few about the equally atrocious things the Japanese did during the same war: the Nazis are easier, more politically correct targets.
It's the same reason why Romney's religion gets so heavily scrutinized but Obama's religion -- including his associations with Jeremiah Wright -- has been largely ignored during this election cycle.
I am not a Romney fan, and I wouldn't vote for him if given the chance. Also, I think that the Mormon church has been and continues to be racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. However, that doesn't justify (or really have anything to do with) Cher's anti-Mormon tweet against Romney and Mormons calling her out on it.

From a objective point of view, all she did was poke a small hornets nest with a long pole. She took a potshot at a easy target.
The reaction to the snipe shows the capaign the church is waging in the media. Every potshot is met with immediate and vocal rhetoric indirectly focused on garnering sympathy for Mitt in November.
IMHO

I admit that I am guilty of the "hey I can make fun of my (ex)-religion but you can't" syndrome

Yes. Truth is truth no matter where it comes from. Of course it's better when it comes not from your hypothetical organization above but from the LDS Church itself.

Keithb, why do you say that the LDS Church
continues to be racist?

Agreed.

I guess the idea that nobody cares what Cher tweets about does not occur to you when you revel in being persecuted.
By contrast, I do think people should care what the LDS Church says. Contrary to a comment Blixa made in another thread, it is some of the best commedia dell'arte you will ever see.
