So... the Westboro Baptist Church was going to picket the funeral of a soldier killed in action, in his hometown in Texas. The Texas Aggies, college kids, put on their maroon colored shirts and made a human wall around the church and the parking lot where the funeral was held, thus preventing picketing of this community's pain.
Very classy thing to do, in my opinion.
My question is... why didn't the LDS ward there think of this? Is God inspiring the Aggies now?

God can inspire
anybody He feels like inspiring. The LDS Church itself has long taught that it doesn't have a monopoly on divine inspiration. You get people like Joan of Arc, Mother Teresa, and now the Aggies, and it's very easy to believe God inspired them in what they did.

...and Athena. She inspired the Greeks. Look at what the Greeks have contributed to the world.
Oh, and we also have James Strang. God does indeed inspire many!
