No Search for Justification

I finally got around to reading the latest carefully worded denials by Prof. P. and was moved to chuckles by this statement:

Daniel Peterson wrote:I do not accuse this commenter of lying when he passes on such false claims.  Somebody, however, is inventing fictions.  They seem to be designed to justify my termination.  I don’t know who is inventing them.

Yes, "someone" is inventing fictions. Any inaccuracies on his side of the debate are the innocent errors of the telephone game, but he often imagines himself to be the innocent victim of deliberate lies and malevolent stalkers. The drama never ends.

Here is my theory: no position is a perpetual entitlement. You were not monarch of the Review by divine right. You had a boss. He made the call. End of story. I agree with you on one thing: the truth is so terribly mundane that it practically begs for a myth to make it interesting.

But it's not. Time marches on, assignments end, and people get on with their lives. No drama needed.

Now enjoy the fun work of building up apologetic resources and smear publications off-campus.

Well said, Kishkumen. People lose jobs, get passed over for promotions, and experience all kinds of setbacks in life, without any conspiracies or smear campaigns. Most of us have figured that out by now.

And some of us may never figure it out.

I have explained to my children that continued belief in Mormonism past a certain age is a sign of emotional and intellectual immaturity.

Some try to argue with me on this, but one can make a very strong case for this position. My older ones no longer believe, but stay active "for their children" and, as far as I can tell, they have not let the younger ones know of the change in their core beliefs.

Dr. Peterson demonstrates his lack of maturity in a number of ways. Seemingly unquenchable narcissism is but one of them.

Just curious, but what age are we talking about here? 19? 25? 35?

I have to agree with your implication, Ab.

That's a bizarre statement, DrW.

Yes, "someone" is inventing fictions.

So far, we have the following obvious suspects:

1. John Dehlin

2. Bridgett Myers

3. Someone within NMI/BYU to be exposed at a later date.

4. Loyd Ericson, perhaps not inventing them, but passing them on as given because they are what he wants to hear.

The MDB board, many of its posters, and much of the rest of the exmo/post-Mormon Internet world, who is feasting on the chum thrown in the water by whoever is inventing them, because its what they want to hear.

You truly are a hopeless nutcase.

I fear that Kishkumen's association of Droopy with people who have to live with mental illness is verging on the disrespectful.

To those living with mental illness, that is.
