D. Michael Quinn working on new book about LDS Inc business!

Post by _Polygamy-Porter »

On the other hand, says historian D. Michael Quinn, who is working on a book about the LDS Church’s finances and businesses

Such a bad year for Daniel & Co.!!

Just when Dan could really use an LDS Inc funded polemic platform like MI to launch full mo'jehad ad-hominem on Quinn, Dan finds himself alone, weaponless, and with almost no audience.

This was a good article about Mormonism, self-reliance, spreading of good values and allowing people to have a job. Not bad at all. Now of course, Quinn has an axe to grind but he is disgruntled. For a small church to have such wealth is amazing. Most churches would love to have the assets the LDS church has.

Good work on the part of the church. Or was it god helping to direct the LDS church?

At what level, why me, do you suppose Mormon God got involved?
a. Selecting the actual stores for His Mall?
b. Selecting the design and configuration of the project?
c. Selecting the location?
d. Just telling Monson to go treat himself to something pretty out of the housekeeping?

When the African children who die of starvation stand before God with their bony, malnourished little bodies and ask "why City Creek and not us?" what is He going to say? "Whoops, My Bad" perhaps...

A real Christian church would tend towards a just in the black balance ... giving all surplus to the poor and needy.

Which is the initial idealism of the LDS. When did they lose that?

I'm gonna guess at sometime after 1960 which is when they started hiding the financial information.

It was also a big thing ... in the day ... to go on one's mission without purse or script ... walk by the spirit in the grace of god and your fellow humans. I believe this practice made it into the 1940's or maybe even later.

Of course, it would also seem any real Christian church would also disclose all its finances, So I'm guessing the big turning point was when they decided to hide their finances.

They had to do that while BY was in power. Read a Stenhouse book (they are repetitive  , so one will do). Ann Eliza can help, too.

It is funny how the label 'Great and Spacious" is considered derogatory by some yet how else would one describe the chapels, temples, MTC buildings, and mall the Church has built?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."
