The impotent & bloodthirsty God of the Book of Mormon

All throughout the translation narrative, of how the Book of Mormon was translated, we see miraculous accounts of giving the plates back to Moroni, and the angel subsequently lugging the plates around, them returning them to Joseph.

July 1828:
Plates and Urim and Thummim are taken. (Harmony, Pa.)
~HC 1:23
July–Aug. 1828 or 22 Sept. 1828:
Plates and Urim and Thummim are returned. (Harmony, Pa.)
~HC 1:23; Biographical Sketches, p. 126
June 1829:
Angel obtains the plates at Harmony, Pa., to transport them to Fayette Township, N.Y., because Joseph is apprehensive about their safety en route. (Harmony, Pa.)
~Biographical Sketches, p. 137
So when it comes to the plates of brass why did some angel not help out?
Nephi and co. go to get the plates.
They fail a couple of times.
Laman and Lemuel start to deride and beat Nephi.
An angel comes and chastizes them.
Now does this angel just solve the problem by handing over the plates? No. But it seems well within the operating parameters. The narrative as a whole is full of angels transporting plates.
So now instead of just lending a hand, the angel sends them back to Jerusalem. Now the lord is going to help a bit. He delivers a druken Laban to Nephi and orders Nephi to decapitate Laban...... Seems a little extreme to me. Couldn't Nephi just have tied him up? Now the argument I have heard against this is that Laban would have raised an alarm and chased after them......
Really? So when the watch finds the decapitated body of an apparently wealthy citizen, and his treasury robbed..... they wouldn't have gone after the decapitators?
I am sure now that some will argue that there was some point only known to god in having Nephi decapitate Laban. Some higher purpose.
But me, I am confused as to why he just didn't use a photocopier and angel deliver an extra copy of the brass book. This god character of the Book of Mormon later drops a magical guide ball on their doorstep, why couldn't he have just dropped off a copy of the brass plates.
Oh yeah, cause he is bloodthirsty and impotent. And remember kids don't kill, except when you are told to.
