Demographic trends

Anyone know what the demographic trends for the Mormon Church membership are? How about demographic trends in Utah? The reason I ask is that I saw the following YouTube video which got me thinking:

Considering Deseret News resent (July 8th, 2012 issue) fluff piece, is the Church considering ways to cosy up to the Islamist?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that LDS missionaries are forbidden to present the discussions to a practicing Muslim. I can understand their concern, but isn't God protecting the Church and hasn't He command the Church to bring the light of the gospel to all people and all nations of the earth?

Does anyone know, if the LDS church has admitted any Muslim students to BYU? They have an Islamic Studies course there at BYU, so I assume they would have admitted some Muslim students. If so, do they get any preferential treatment?

why would a person ask a question that they could google for themselves in less time that it took to post the question to this board?

weird.

Well, your right. This link indicate the Muslim population at BYU is 2%. That seams high to me. But what do i know.

Some of the comments indicate that Islam and Mormonism have a lot in common. Can anyone here enlighten me on the similarities?

The Church might be posturing itself for day when integration with Islam will become necessary for its survival. Maybe if they play their cards right, the LDS prophet can can become the 12th Imam. Now, that would be something.

hmmmm...

1. Men are more important than women.

2. Polygamy is not only acceptable but desirable.

3. Men and women are separate in worship.

4. Money and power are really important.

5. They were both started by men who claimed to be prophets.

Interesting thought, Harmony. Apparently, this comparison has been made for a long time.

Since they have some much in common. Muslim students comprise the largest non-LDS student group at BYU. Do you think that under the right circumstances that they (the church) could find a way integrate their beliefs with Islam?

Most Christian churches see Christians and Muslim beliefs as polar opposites. I wonder if the average Mormon see Islam as being their buddies.

Glenn Beck (a noted Mormon) seems to have quite the opposite opinion:

Are you kidding? No way would the church integrate with any other religion... ever. To do so would be to admit they aren't the True Church.

Harmony, I am trying to understand why they would encourage enrollment of Muslims at BYU. I can understand why a Muslim family would send their daughters to BYU. But what's in it for the Church?

I can only see a down side for them. What happen when CAIR sets up a Muslim Student body association? What happens when they demand Islamic foods by made available in the cafeterias? How about when they demand a building be set a side for their worship. Or, rooms set aside for their daily payers? Would having the Islamic "call to pray" over out door speakers the be to much to ask?

Maybe militant Muslims will never attend BYU. I hope BYU selection process is better than the US-Army's selection process. I dread seeing a Fort Hood type of Jehadist awaking of some Muslim student.

But what can you do.... In-sha-allah

Well, if any of that happens, you can bet the farm that the church will take no responsibility for it, selection process or no.

When they redo the Honor Code to allow beards, we may be able to recognize the problem.
