A more sophisticated way to deal with the BusinessWeek cover

"And the human knew the source of life, the woman of him, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, 'I have procreated a man with Yahweh.'" Gen. 4:1, interior quote translated by D. Bokovoy.

That was indeed quite interesting. Thanks, lulu, I would have missed this.

"The work he did was to remind the saints of the spiritual roots that called the church into being," he said, "to remind people of the sacrifices of their ancestors and to inspire future generations to be courageous people and to be people of strength and fortitude."

Mmmmm hmmmm. Seems there's 15 men who need a bit of a reminder.

Of course, many Mormons sacrificed. But lets remember that a lot of that suffering was the result of bad leadership and the failure of the followers to think for themselves.

Most importantly, Mormons have consistently failed to apply the golden rule to outsiders. On the contrary, they have painted them as evil and threatening. If you behave like that, it is no wonder that your neighbors will become aggressive.

That's no justification of violence and persecution but, as Jesus taught, the reality is that those who sew the wind shall reap the whirlwind. In the case of the Business Week cover, yes, it is mocking and disrespectful but compared to how the brethren are treating their opponents, the Business Week cartoon is pretty tame.

Respect goes two ways. If Mormons want to be respected, they ought to make more of an effort to respect their gentile neighbors. Never mind behaving in a respectable way.
