I was reading on the evil Brigham Young thread and became curious about Zina Diantha Huntington – Jacob – Smith – Young . When I looked her up on new family search website it showed that she has been sealed to all three men.

She was sealed to:

Joseph Smith on 27 October 1842 Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois

Henry Bailey Jacobs on 3 April 1987 in the Provo Utah Temple

Brigham Young on 17 February 2012 in the Seattle Washington Temple

So what gives?

I believe she was only sealed to Joseph Smith for time and all eternity. Unless I'm mistaken, I think she was only sealed for time to the other two.

What does it state in the records you looked up?

These sealings are just recycled and done over and over again from what I found with doing my own family genealogy (which was very upsetting when I was a TBM....but not now).

Women in the Church can be sealed to one husband on earth, and all remaining husbands by proxy, as long as all parties are deceased, with the understanding that she will choose one of them to spend eternity with. I'm not sure when this became the rule, so to speak, but my TBM mother told me this about three years ago.

So, who do you think Zina chose?

According to family search she posthumesly sealed to Young and Jacobs in the temple. That would be for time and enternity.

You can be sealed in the temple for time only....my grandfather was (to his 2nd wife who'd already been sealed for eternity to her deceased first husband).

But, that would have only been when all of them (Zina, Smith and Young) were still alive. Maybe she's been sealed to all 3 of them for eternity now (?)

Why put a lot of controls on post mortal marriage? Did the church *really have a lot of reasons for tight control? Really?

I think Zina is an absolutely fascinating person, and while I understand the early Mormon practice of women marrying up, I have always felt she did a terrible thing to Henry, the only husband who truly loved her as a husband should. So, while I think he was a freaking idiot, if it all turned out to be true, I'd wish for her to pick him. But, you know how Mormons always say you'll have the same personality in heaven that you had on earth, so I agree she'd go with Joseph.

Yes, it is. I was once banned from a pro-LDS board for things that were never made clear, but it happened while correcting a member about some historical facts regarding the MMM, and some people didn't like my attitude. (Others were, and continued to be, very supportive.) When I was let back on I had to pick a new screen name, so I chose "Elphaba" given her propensity for defiance.
