I am stunned. Perhaps I've just missed the polls indicating growing support for an atheist candidate, but it seems to me this support has always scored very low, like in the '20s or '30s.

This also really surprised me:
Indeed, in the current poll, 43 percent said they would not vote for a well-qualified atheist, a percentage that was higher among Republicans than Democrats (58 percent) or independents (56 percent).

Again, polls I've seen show Republican support for an atheist candidate averaging in the '20s, with Democrat support in the '70s.

Don't get me wrong, being an atheist myself I think it's wonderful. But I can't help wondering when this happened and where the heck was I?
