FAIR ad on KSL radio

This weekend I heard a FAIR commercial played several times on KSL. Have any of you heard this?
The gist of it was this: If you have loved ones who are questioning the LDS church, have them go the FAIR website. The FAIR website easily provides rebuttals to all of the criticisms agains Mormonism. It helps that there are educated people out their who can convey and combat the critics with logic and reason.
This was followed by a quick invite to the FAIR conference this week.
The funny thing is the ad kind of leads the listener to come away thinking FAIR is a sanctioning body within the LDS church. Usually Fair always has the caveat that its not endorsed by the church, but this ad didn't present that angle.

Sorry, but if I had a loved one who was questioning the LDS Church, I would only send them to FAIR if I were trying to encourage them to resign. Getting them to stay requires something faith-promoting, not the persistent deception exercised at FAIR.

I agree 100%. I would never send a questioning member to that tangled rat's nest of dizzying logic. Back in the day, when I was questioning, I was directed to FAIR by a well meaning uncle. While FAIR is not responsible for destroying my testimony, it did nothing to answer the questions. The explanations they presented were not plausible.

LDS apologetics were deeply corrosive of my faith. While I don't think that it gets all the blame, dismissing it as a big factor in my journey into doubt and inactivity would be dishonest of me.

I hope the advertising campaign is a success. I love the idea of inviting people to look at the gospel with logic and reason. Sure, some folks will just be happy and feel comforted by the idea that someone somewhere claims to be able to answer critics. But, anything that encourages critical thought and evidenced-based thinking and discussion has got to be a plus, even if it ultimately fails to actually deliver. Inviting people to join the conversation, or even letting them know it's going on has to be seen as a good thing from the perspective of anyone who is interested in truth.
Of course, this is all very easy for me to say since I have no religious beliefs I'm concerned to preserve.
