The Church loves Mormon Discussions

I think the church loves discussion forums like Mormon Discussions, New Order Mormon, Postmormon and others. All these sites give people the opportunity to express thier frustrations about the church. I think this is a good and healthy thing to do. It also gives people the assurance that they are not alone. The thing that I think the church loves about these forums is that it keeps people busy expressing thier views on these sites and not bothering faithful members that would be opposed to visit these sites. Can you imagine what the church would do if all the people that post on these sites spent thier time writing letters to editors of different newspapers or or used other media to spread the problems with the church. The church would have to put thier public relations department in overdrive. I think the church also monitors these sites to see what threats there are and does what it can to contain it.

Interesting idea. Maybe someday the apologists will catch your vision.

Maybe the Church likes that MDB keeps the attention of the apologists, and thus keeps the apologists from driving more tithe-paying members away.

I have to now downgrade this site as being on the same level as the MDD. Like there, we have at least one moderator who considers the expression of a certain point of view (that's even backed up by science and criminal data) to be a personal attack and that a certain class of people need protection from this view. The thread "Easily Offended" needs to be re read and applied.

That's OK. We downgraded you a long time ago. You have been blocked from all of the best parts of this board.

Fellow soldiers and friends I wonder what's afoot with a cabal of Mormon/Christian Universal Salvation-ites giving me the hives lately. Just me? These are an odd bunch. Have they been in camouflage 'till now. Like a moo cow in the corn I can't make head nor tails of it.

That could be true. I love the guys that say some off the wall comment in sunday school or Elders Quorum and the rest of the class time is spent argueing diiferent points.

As you pointed out members are often opposed to visiting a site like this, but that is because they are simply not interested in anything that is critical of the church, and that includes information from individuals. in my opinion the existence of websites where people can get critical information about the church is always a net loss for them. Having places where people can inquire after their doubts quietly isn't good for them. It would be better for the church if people were isolated and unable to research questions and concerns.
