What a coincidence

Joseph Smith sure stumbled across some rather fortunate coincidences. He finds a pile of rocks and it turns out to be the very altar that Adam used. He finds some bones and they turn out to be a 9-ft tall white Lamanite who was renowned through the land. He sends his people to Missouri and where they settle just happens to be the location of the garden of Eden and where the New Jerusalem is to be built. An ordinary set of Egyptian mummies travels across the United States. When it reaches Nauvoo, Joseph discovers that the papyrus scrolls, though they look like ordinary funerary texts, actually contain a one-of-a-kind record of the patriarch Abraham and a record of Joseph.

It's clear that God's hand was in all of this. What other explanation could there be?

I can hear Joseph saying, "Yeah, that pile of rocks is ... uh ... an altar ... and uh ... not just any altar ... it belonged to Adam. Yeah ... that's the ticket."

Oh, he was much smoother than that! Storytelling is an artform. He may not have been as good as some, but he did have a wonderful imagination.

I find it to be a remarkable coincidence that, according to some postulates in Book of Mormon scholarship, Moroni decided to haul the tumbaga plates from the Yucatan/Guatemala/etc. to upstate New York. Really, what are the odds that Joseph Smith would live there 14 centuries later? There has to be something more than random chance at work here.

He has found more amazing artifacts than Indiana Jones. At least Indiana Jones traveled around the world to find his stuff. Joseph Smith just waits until they land in his lap.
