Reality check from TBMs

I've been away from the chapel for so long, I started to absorb some fantasies. Two major fantasies include:
1. It isn't dangerous to enjoy the writings of Joanna Brooks and we can freely discuss her ideas.
2. Mitt Romney isn't special.
I approached these two fantasies as if they were reality during a conversation with some out-of-Utah TBMs. I found very quickly that in the world of the TBM, these are indeed fantasies.
Reality check.

So, the reality is that plenty of people have silly opinions. Yep, that's reality.

Zee ~
We talked about how technology has advanced the work of the church today in Relief Society. Afterward, I asked the sister who taught if she'd seen The Daily Show. She responded that she hadn't but that she'd heard several wonderful things about it and was going to watch it online.
I wish you could visit my ward...
Much love,
Cate

Cate, in all seriousness, I wish you could visit my local pub...we'd tip a couple and have some good laughs.

Cate, your ward sounds as progressive as mine.

Sock Puppet, are you familiar with the bar scene in Paul Blart Mall Cop?
There's a reason some of us don't "tip a couple". We know our limitations (unlike the movie's protagonist).

Joanna Brooks' writings are entertaining fantasy, but no more dangerous than The Hobbit.

What I would like to know is, does your Relief Society hold awesome activities like bread baking, sewing, and floral icing? Now that would be a Relief Society to join! I'd reactivate for that.
But instead of going to church today, I spent a little time around the kids doing things like washing the car. It reminded me of a Mormon ad.

Ummm. No. Do Relief Society groups still do that kind of thing? Of course, I rarely attend the activities so they could be doing some secret sewing behind my back... ;)

That's awesome. I'm glad you had a good day with your kids! I took Sunday off last week. I think that when worship starts to feel like work, it's time for a day off. So last Sunday, I woke up and announced that I needed an actual day of rest so I could reconnect with the reasons I attend in the first place. It was the first Sunday in weeks where none of us had any pressing obligations.
The entire family spent the whole day in pajamas.
And we had breakfast for dinner.
And we watched Falling Skies together.
It was just what I needed.

Reality check.
They are not fantasies in my world so long as you understand that JB's writings, while they might be enjoyed, are ultimately rejected as fantasy and that anyone who is a Democrat or votes for them is an apostate.
by the way, I just called a new Sunday School president (won't tell you if it was stake or ward). I outlined the Church's definition of doctrine as I've presented it to you and there was total agreement and understanding. I also mentioned that we have conservatives and liberals and care should be taken to not outright offend the liberals because they need to come to Christ too. But if it comes down to offending liberals and protecting doctrine, liberals should be offended before the doctrine is trampled. More agreement.
