What to do with the crappy members?

There is a good thread going on over on RFM right now:

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,601757

Some of the first quotes:'

-You cannnot be a Democrat and a good Mormon
-MLK was a Communist as well as anyone involved in the Civil Rights Movement
-The church was persecuted by everyone because it is true and the devil was attempting to stop its movement
-African-Americans (although they used other terms) were inferior human beings and would never hold the priesthood
-The Constitution was being attacked everyday by the Liberals
-Gays are evil and chose to be that way (they were not born that way).
-Gays deserve to be get AIDS and God struck them with this due to the sinning
-BYU was the Harvard of the West
-University of Utah was evil and influenced by Satan
-America was founded entirely for religious freedom
-All churches made up the Great Abominable Church, especially the Roman Catholic Church

Being on this board a long time and part of the Ex-Mormon communities, I see this a lot. And the apologists are quick to blame the member, state the typical responses such as speaking as a man, misinterpreted doctrine, wrong impressions, etc, etc. However, the Cult taught this material and they did it for years. And while they may not teach that blacks were fence sitters and unworthy of celestial glory anymore - they did at one time - and for a very very long time. Lives were affected, blacks were denied, people were hurt, offended.

So I ask, what does Mormonism do with all the crappy leftover members? All those people they taught wrongly. Those people who then turned around and lead their own lives with this wrong information. How do they reprogram them all? Wait for them to die off? The new generation doesn't even know about death vows in the temple - and some don't even know that people actually got naked in a flapping poncho and dang near had their nipples poked.

Those who left - like me, got called crappy members. That it was our fault. Apologists have been great at covering it up, casting doubt on disaffected members, calling them bitter, apostates, evil, "Anti-Mormon" - rather than owning up to the truth - the truth that their cult was wrong - and has refused to apologize for it.

So what I want to know is what do Mormons expect?

:lol:

This is the same reason women don't masturbate, right? :wink:

I never thought MLK was a Communist. His predecessors, by and large, are though.

But you know exactly what I already do with crappy members. I question their desire to gain or increase testimony and if such a desire is not there, I question their honesty and their membership. I usually see a significant and sustained increase in activity after it's come down to that.

All those people they taught wrongly.

There aren't any. There are those who lie to excuse their sins though.

I will admit that is the first I've heard that one. Heard over and over that there were too many women and not enough men. I've heard almost all of the others on there. The girl I joined the Cult for even told me once that dinosaurs were placed here from different matter - and a lot of it was Satan's plan to confuse us. Even then I thought that was bonkers.

But the real question is where did you hear the Church itself officially say that as that is the accusation.

Who cares what was "official" or not? If seminary kids couldn't trust the church for the truth to be taught them, then it's the fault of the people running the joint, not the kids.

bcspace,

Let me get this straight. Are you claiming that the Church never officially taught some of the things that Infymus cited in the OP?

Are you claiming that the Church never officially taught that those of African descent were fence sitters in the pre-existance, or that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice. Are you claiming that death oaths were never part of the temple ceremony?

If you are claiming this then you are wrong.

If you are not claiming this, then how can you say that there are not any people out there (including me) who were, in fact, taught "wrongly"?

Some of the things you say on this board sometimes make me wonder about your:

[select all that apply]

_ credibility;
_ veracity;
- short term memory;
- long term memory;
- sanity.

THANK YOU, INFYMUS, THANK YOU!

Whenever I asked a question, that couldn't be answered.
or challenge a dumb comment by a teacher

It was like 'Don't rock the boat.'
'That comment was not HELPFUL'
'Why are you doing this?'
'Be careful what you say'

All of a sudden, I was not welcome in classes anymore.
the missionaries were banned from coming to my home ( by the MissPrez.)
My home teachers stopped coming.

Talking to the bishop I got asked what had I done in my life to lose the Holy Ghost?
Oh so you're playing that card on me now!

I am a name and number they don't want to erase, they cannot EXCOM,

I don't believe, but cannot leave.

Hmmm...

Telling Newspapers that using the term 'Mormon' is something they would rather they didn't do whilst at the same time running a pr campaign headed "I'm a Mormon" seems at best to be contrary.

In terms of what to do with crappy members...easy...tithe them and make them clean the property.
