It's sounds like a slippery slope for Mitt.
But is there a real difference between that and chocolate ice cream.

Yes. However, if you blend them together the result is mokalicious!

Wow.

The old Mormon saying of "Avoid the very appearance of evil" does not apply to Mitt?

What next? near beer?

Once the ice cream melts, is it not coffee?? Albeit with heavy cream and sugar, but coffee nonetheless?

Will any current member of this board who still attend LDS youth activities PLEASE take coffee ice cream to the next youth social??

Here is my stab at an apologetic response:

When Mitt said he enjoyed coffee icecream we need to consider the context. Mitt was most likely not speaking of the content or flavor of the icecream. For instance, sometimes dark complected people are refered to as having a coffee complexion. Does this mean their skin is made of coffee? No it means they have a smooth light brown complexion. Is my Chocolate Lab made of chocolate? No. Again this is just a descriptor of the dog's color. Critics of the church like to twist this around and make it appear that Mitt is not following the word of wisdom, but careful study will show that when Mitt is saying coffee icecream he is really talking about the color of his icecream. For all we know he could be refering to chocolate, hazelnut, or rootbeer flavored icecream, but it definately is not coffee flavored.

Racer,

There happens to be a board that could really use some fresh apologetic talent right now - just the kind you have displayed here. No ad hominem attacks, just keen insight and "racer sharp" logic.

Perhaps you should apply.

I would put some coffee ice cream in my new Mitt Romney coffee mug.

I'm not surprised that he likes him some coffee ice cream-- it is very, very, very good stuff. I am surprised that he ordered it in public considering that abstinence from coffee is one of the trademarks of Mormonism. Black coffee, which is actually healthy in moderation, is a no-no, but coffee ice cream-- loaded with cream and suger, is okay? So is iced black coffee okay now since it isn't hot?

Hell, I wasn't even allowed to have mocha-flavored lip gloss or coffee candy (a perennial favorite of my non-Mo grandparents).

As a "code of health," the WoW isn't particularly compelling- it just seems kind of silly.

I used to have a weekly thing of going for ice cream after an evening meeting with friends. There was a coffee flavor and it was practically black it was so strong. I'd enjoy that very much and then be awake all night. Mitt better watch out.
