Why did I ever read beyond the slaying of Laban?

All good novels begin with something that quickly catches the reader. I won't bother you with examples. You all know what I mean, so I'll just take a CFR as someone being a smartass.
Anyway, I wonder what about my own morality, when I was growing up Mormon, did not kick in and tell me that the killing for the Lord at the beginning of the Book of Mormon was repugnant to the point that I would be compelled to stop reading? Oh, I recall it being discussed in seminary, BYU religion classes, and on my mission. But how in the hell did I not have the sensibilities and courage to go with it to say, WTF? and shit-can the whole of the LDS religion right there and then (the first time reading that)?
I suppose that it could be chalked up to being young, dumb and ... and the Mormon peer pressure, but hell, man, I am so ashamed of the pre-age 25 sock puppet.
I stand in awe of those of you, like Pokatator, who saw it for what it was much earlier in life than I and took a stand against it.

I think the Laban slaying thing is there as a type of winnowing. Anyone that will buy into that story and keep reading is a good candidate for believing in anything.

It is just as easy to spear the Bible as the Book of Mormon. There are plenty of takers out there doing it to the Bible. The fact that this board abstains from Bible skewers is how patently obvious your objectivity would fall under the bus. That would exceedingly lighten the weight you want to bring against Joseph Smith alone.

You know she does not believe in God at all don't you? Sheeeeee only pretends for the same reason to bring as much weight against Joseph Smith as possible.

What's with your obsession with the Tanners, Mooseman? Nobody was talking about them. And yes, the Bible is full of illogical crap, too. But this board is called Mormon Discussions, and we tend to discuss the uniquely Mormon stuff more often here.

I don't devote effort to discussing the Bible on this board because that would take us into areas that are, in general, common to all Christians.
This is a discussion board specifically about Mormonism, and so I tend to want to talk about issues that are particularly characteristic of Mormonism - such as the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the life and teachings of Joseph Smith, and so on.
You have a problem with that?

Who was it that said the Book of Mormon is chloroform in print? I had to crush my way through that book. Cover to cover 5 times...
Brutal.
At least I read the Bible one time cover to cover. I think the Bible is worse...

Why did Nathaniel Hawthorn insist on making Hester Prynne wear a Scarlet A, when that letter was so stigmatizing?!!! Don't give me any of that "calm down Moksha, it was just part of the story". This letter branding has to stop!!!

Welcome to the board!
There are some threads here devoted to things like Young Earth Creationism and The Flood.
