full story here

On Friday, August 17, 2012, at 8:00 p.m., thousands of people will gather in the Conference Center to participate in “Golden Days: A Celebration of Life,” honoring the upcoming 85th birthday of President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Does anyone else find this disturbing. These guys are suppose to be humble followers of Christ. Instead events like this come across as something out of North Korea.

It seems the event coincides with the end of his active Presidency of the Church. A sort of testimonial farewell. It rings a little hollow seeing as how Monson has largely done nothing successful with his Presidency.
