Finally, another small correction: Despite what was reported, the Church revelation spelling out health practices (Doctrine and Covenants 89) does not mention the use of caffeine. The Church’s health guidelines prohibits alcoholic drinks, smoking or chewing of tobacco, and “hot drinks” — taught by Church leaders to refer specifically to tea and coffee. *
Mormon NewsroomI'm glad to see press coverage finally get them to make this clarification.

Whatevs. GBH said on national television that we don't drink caffeine. That is the same as Jesus saying it!
So you don't know what you're talking about!!

Now if they'll just release an official explanation for why caffeinated soft drinks aren't sold at BYU.

I think what happened was that when Mormons where asked why coffee was against the word of wisdom the reason many came up with was caffeine. From there caffeine being against the word of wisdom became doctrine to some and Hinckleys answer didn't help.
But I think question needs to be asked again now that caffeine is officially not the reason. Why is coffee against the word of wisdom?

Cuz god said so.
The real question is why is beer forbidden when it is clearly allowed in the written WOW. Why don't LDS make their own wine?

The Holy Ghost will whisper to you that it is caffeine that should be avoided.

Self righteous Mormons will continue to abstain (and make sure everyone knows about it) because they think they are obeying some higher law.

Or just listening a little closer to the Holy Ghost.

The holy ghost told me abstain from all carbonated sodas. I'm listening the closest to the holy ghost.

I am so much more righteous and closer to God than you Stormy. The Holy Ghost told me to have a diet rich in whole grains and non-starchy vegetables with lesser portions of fruit and unsaturated fats. The Holy Ghost also helped me pick out what I'm wearing today (he always knows which colors will look best on me, smart ghost that he is). Neener, neener, neener . . .
